Going to Cancun, do we need to take acidophilus now a days. Went to Mexico a long time ago and thats what people recommended

no preparations req'd these days- even food at street carts is OK

Acidophilus and other probiotics just insure a healthy intestinal tract. You can be "off" from eating unusual foods, drinking different (not necessarily bad) water, etc. It's probably not a bad addition to any vacation survival kit. We spent two weeks in Argentina and I took probiotics first thing every morning. I didn't want to lose a day to an upset tummy.

I considered taking it before our first trip to Mexico (5 years ago) but never did. We were perfectly fine then and for the next 4 trips. :D

Maybe if you have a sensitive stomach it couldn't hurt.

I just take a few things: family size imodium, cipro, nexium, pepto, some air sickness bags, a case of gatorade, large jar of vaseline, economy size baby wipes and a box of depend adult diapers- just in case

If you really want acidophilus, yogurt is very readily available in any grocery store in Mexico. Can't hurt. Might help. I think I'd take some Pepto chewables along just in case, if I had a tentative tummy.

The vast majority of establishments that cater to tourists use purified water, even for washing veggies and ice cubes. They don't want to be the place the tourist reports at the infirmary as where he got sick, whether responsible or not.

I take the little green pills (immodium?) along just in case. I think my occasional issue is due to more fruit and avocados and pina coladas, not the water.
