Should Wyndham Create An Owner To Owner Website For Communication Among Owners?

It would be helpful to communicate directly with other Club Wyndham Plus Points owners; but Wyndham, for whatever reason, has not chosen to make such communication possible.

Meanwhile, Worldmark's Board has adopted a policy that will allow Worldmark owners to communicate with each other. Through such communication it is possible that owners could get together and let Worldmark know their collective thoughts on various subjects. However, getting Wyndham to set-up such a program would probably meet with some resistence because Wyndham now has the power and so far Wyndham has not shown any willingness to share that power with the owners.

Until the Board of Directors of the Fairshare Vacation Plan Use Management Trust allow an expansion of the Board to include individual Club Wyndham Plus Point Owners' Wyndham's corporate appointed Board calls the shots.

For those interested here is some information about what the WorldMark Board has done:

WorldMark Board Adopts Communication Policy

The WorldMark Board recently passed a resolution adopting a new Club Communications Policy for owners to communicate with fellow owners. An owner to owner website has been established for owners to submit statements and to read statements submitted by other owners. This website will be available only to WorldMark Owners and acknowledgement of the website’s terms and conditions will be required before access is granted.

Owner families may submit up to three statements per calendar quarter of not more than 250 words each. Statements must be for a purpose reasonably related to the requesting member’s interest as a member of the Club. Statements must be accurate with respect to the Club’s Bylaws, guidelines and regulations, and must not contain profanity or highly personal attacks. Statements will not be posted if they may result in defamation, libel or slander, as indicated in the Club Communication Policy.

The new Club Communications Policy is available here. Visit the Owner to Owner Communications website here

The website is only out due to the settlement from the courts. I doubt Wynhdam would have come up with this on their own. They are being forced to do it.

And the website is pretty much a joke, it allows now interaction with anyone. Just a simple bulletin board to post information.

Sometimes that is a start. I do not know who owns this site but it is a good beginning, maybe if someone formed a independent owners group a membership could be thrown in with this membership fee. The problem would be two fold. The first is who would pay to form this group (I would make a contribution). The 2nd is how to let owners know it is available. Tax records in the court houses where Wyndham Vacation Resorts has properties would be a listing of potiential members/subscribers but not all courthouse tax records on on line.

So, why WorldMark and not Wyndham??? Was there really a court settlement?

Actually, it was not a court settlement but a court ruling. I am not a legal person, but as I understand it, Wyndham filed for an injunction against a WM owner, because he asked for an owner contact list as authorized by WM governing documents. The case went through, in California (WM is a California corporation), the trial court, the Appeals court, and the Supreme Court. Wyndham lost. Owner to owner communication was part of the court ruling.

The site that Wyndham has implemented, to be in compliance, is not really owner to owner communication. It is a bulletin board of limited number, bite-size owner comments that are submitted to, approved by, and posted by Wyndham. And it is on a separate site that is not part of the Club web site, but only linked to from an item in the News Archive.

To add to earlier posted comments:
The owner to owner site really is a joke. Comments are submitted and then Wyndham decides if it is suitable to be posted or not. There is no ability to reply or ask questions etc. In addition, it is written in code that does not allow for search functions to find it. In other words, they make it as difficult to find as possible and censor what is posted there.

The true owner to owner site for Worldmark is www.wmowners.com. Any owner (or prospective owner) can post and ask questions there. I believe that Wyndham owners have something similar????

Personally, I MUCH prefer independant websites like TUG, the DIS, and Wyndham owners forum. All discussion boards are private websites -- the owners of the website make and enforce the rules, and if you don't like it your only option is to go somewhere else.

The discussion boards that have value to me are those which allow multiple points of view and free discussion (as long as it's civil). A company-owned website, almost by definition, would not allow postings which reflected negatively on the company. They would become the Internet version of "weasel speak."

Technically speaking, WMOwners, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporate organization registered as a legal entity that operates solely in support of its mission statement. More informally, we are a bunch of owners who love to vacation and in particular love our WorldMark memberships. WMOwners, Inc. is run by an all volunteer group of individuals – “By Owners, For Owners." There is no form of compensation involved for any volunteer. These volunteers work to fulfill the organization’s mission statement, which is:

If there is any interest in forming a similar group for Wyndham Vacation Resorts I would be willing to contribute to the start up costs and possably volunteer some time to the new group.

I'm not sure of the legal structure of TUG or the DIS, but my point was that all of the forums I listed were independent of any timeshare developer, and that they permit a variety of viewpoints -- not just the "company line."

The issue I'm most concerned with is control vs. independence.

If a site were set up by Wyndham for owner-owner communication, I'd be amazed if they would allow presentation of viewpoints like urging folks to purchase resale rather than direct from the developer, or criticizing Wyndham's treatment of their owners, policy changes, etc.

You are probably right.
