Hi,
I exchanged my week for a week in Hawaii, the big island the week before Christmas and New Year 2008-09. I did this over a year ago with the thought of getting a decent air fare from NY to KOA in advance. Well, it never happened and the fares just got more and more expensive. So now I'd like to see if I can rent the week. The exchange was made through RCI and the unit is a 2 bedroom.
I don't want to go through RCI and want to know if I can do it on my own either through TUG classifieds or my local paper or CraigsList or Ebay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Renting a week that you have gotten from an exchange is against the rules of most exchange companies. If you are discovered trying to rent a week like that, the week will be canceled and your mebership in the exchange company will be suspended.

If you do rent the week, and the renter mentions what is going on, the resort may deny the room to your renter and the renter may then sue you for their damages (which could be significant).

If you can't use the week, try and find a family member or freind who can use it and get them a guest certificate.

I agree with everything that Bill said. Renting out an RCI exchange is very much against the rules and can get you in serious trouble.

Furthermore, everyone else is also having trouble getting good airfares to Hawaii, and the week before Christmas is not a high-demand week, so this probably won't rent for much anyway.

You options are: 1) give this to a friend; 2) give it to a charity; or 3) cancel it and get something else from RCI. Option 3 will involve paying another exchange fee, plus your deposit will have less trade power than it did before. But, if you are looking to travel the week before Christmas, there will be many continental US timeshares available.

RCI actively look for the rental of exchanged weeks. As Bil said, you risk having the week cancelled and your membership suspended.

The options Judy suggested are your best bet.
