When will new gondola / lift from town of Avon to Bachelor's Gulch be open?

Is it this coming Dec 2008? Will the lifts be high speed and ?6 people capacity?

I've read on Tripadvisor that the Gondola is open and running but the Westin is not open yet. Hopefully, someone on site can confirm this for sure.

Doug is correct. The gondola was running when we were there over Christmas. It can hold six people, but since your gear rides inside with you, it could be a squeeze. It is a short (4 minute) ride. The Westin is still under construction, but some of the shops around its perimeter are starting to open.

Stayed at the Sheraton Mt Vista earlier this week and made use of the new Gondola. IMHO the gondola is not an improvement over the previous bus service provided from Avon to Beaver Creek. Only shop that appeared to be open was the real estate office.

why do you say that grupp? I thought the service would be a huge improvement when I first heard about it. I hate that crowded bus trip with all the Christie Lodge people making it standing room only in the bus. Is it because it's too far a walk? Not enough parking?

Thanks everyone for the replies. Although a bit expensive, we love Avon and Vail. Is it because of the immediate access and nice bussing area provided by the Beaver Creek Ski Resort Village... and the relatively short distance for all of the trouble of trudging to the gondola.... ? Seems like that would be a turn off for us.
