Hi Everyone, I signed the papers for a timeshare at Summer Bay on February 23. I did buy resale, but I bought resale at Summer Bay, so you know I paid way too much, but I am going to enjoy it and not cry about it. I was told that I would get my "papers" in 10-12 weeks but that many receive their's in six weeks. My question is -- Is this normal to have to wait so long? I keep reading the postings on TUG, and yet I am not able to look at anything at RCI. When I do receive my paperwork, I will have tons of questions, but in the meantime, I was wondering if anyone knew how much longer I will have to wait. I did e-mail the salesman and he said he would contact RCI, but I have heard nothing. I am just being impatient???
Thanks,
Bonnie

Two to three months for a resale closing and recognition on the resort's records is not unusual. Here is a recent thread with a number of posts on this issue.

I am confused about something you said. You say you bought resale, but you refer to a salesman. Normally, salespeople involved with a timeshare are affiliated with developer sales. Did you buy from the developer?

Resale Broker Sales People.

Some timeshare sellers are resale brokers & agents -- like the 1 that almost sold us Isle-Of Bali-Ron-Jon-Liki-Tiki back in 2002. Fortunately (for us), that fell through & we bought at Cypress Pointe Resort At Lake Buena Vista instead -- for about $3,000 less (not that there's anything wrong with that).

During one of those TS presentations at IIRC Mayan Palace somewhere South of Cancun, as the pressure rose, I did my usual, "Gosh this is a nice resort, but if I were buying, I'd buy resale", and produced recent printouts of their resorts from e-bay, Holiday and a couple others and what'd'ya know, they just happened to have a "used" unit or two at substantial savings. I could see the sales staff in a huddle with the printouts and much pointing at us. We gathered up our gifts and left without a lot of fuss and muss. Nice brunch and tour, and enough cash to pay for a weeks car rental.

Anyway, I can see how the unwary could buy resale from the developer.

Oops, forgot to answer the question

It took 10 weeks to complete the whole deal from deposit through getting the deed and welcome packet from the resort and RCI (except the phone-book size RCI catalog) after a purchase from Holidaygroup.

I am one of those "unwary". My husband and I went through the whole presentation and then, as we were leaving, my husband had to use the restroom and came out and told me that he met a man in the restroom who just bought one for 3,000 less than what we were told. I asked about that, and, lo and behold, they had one more resale. The salesman told us that it had just come in and he did not know about it. Like an idiot, I thought that was a great deal, so we bought. Live and learn. Anyhow, we did buy from the resort but it was a resale. Still paid too much, but I am taking the advice of many people on TUG and I am just going to learn how to use it and enjoy it. Thanks for letting me know that it does take this long. Since I signed on February 23, I should be getting pretty close.
