Hi guys,

as many of you may know, i recently bought Kauai. My question is when is the best time to book this resort. My week is for 2009, so i wanted to get the best week for possible rental. i heard the best week for maui was presidents week, with people renting their 2br for the week for more than 4K!

obviously, if i can't rent it, our family will go. But i wanted some insight from those that travel to kauai:

1: when is the best time to go?
2: what is the best holiday to secure for renting top dollar?
3: if i plan to rent, when is the best time to list the property?

Have you had a chance to look at the SVO RENTAL THREAD sticky posted at the top of the page? Lots of good advice there.

I think a summer week is better than Pres. week - like 4th of July is excellent. Most schools in CA do NOT have the whole Presidents week off, and the majority of visitors we meet in Hawaii are from CA. But remember, you may reserve a great week, and the renter may want a different week anyway, so make it clear in your Ad that other weeks are available as well.

You should start advertising immediately, but be aware that it may not rent until 2 - 3 mos. out. However, I rented my Maui week this past Sept. for July - 10 mos. in advance, so it can happen early too. You could start advertising now and if it rents, just take a $100 deposit to hold it until you can make the Resv. at 12 mos. out.

When is the best time to go...I like the spring, summer and fall. There are whales in the winter, but there is also more rain. Being from Central CA, rain seems "abnormal" to us! :D We were on the BI last summer when there was a tropical depression that was big enough to have it's own name (Cosme? Cosmo?) and we did not enjoy it AT ALL! For several days we were stuck inside our condo while it poured outside. But, rain doesn't bother some. We are very active on vacation, so we don't care for it.

thanks. i did read the rental thread and it was very helpful. that great. i'll start advertising now. book president's week and change it if necessary. we can change reservation without any problem, right?

finally it seemed like the consensus was to book on craig's list. what do you think this far out?

does kauai get less rain in spring and summer?

finally, what is BI?

Figuring out the weather is tough. We were in Princeville in Oct a couple of years ago and it barely rained. At WKORV this past March it rained almost every day.

BI=Big Island (also often referred to as TBI for "the big island")

I wouldn't just use Craiglist - if you look at that rental thread, you will see several cheap and free places to advertise - I would use all of them.

Storms can surprise you any time of year, but the yearly averages always show more rain in the winter months.

Here are the seasonal weather averages for Princeville.

For Princeville, averages vary from a high of 9-10 in. a month in Dec. and Jan. to a low of 2-3 in. in May - Sept.

Just to get all the Princeville owners stirred up, :D here are the averages for sunny and dry Koloa (Poipu.)

They hate it when I say that Princeville is too wet for me! ;)
