Hi has anyone exchanged into a resort that they had already went to and now were in the 1 in 4 year rule delima, and did resort refuse your exchange?
Thank you
Linda:confused:

I was shut out of Sheraton's Vistana in Kissimmee, FL but got around it by renting. I got a rental through a company for not too much more than the cost of MF (if I'd owned a week there). There are some credible companies that specialize in renting timeshare weeks and sometimes the price is very reasonable. Search the boards here for such companies -- I don't remember the one I used.

Which resorts use the 1 in 4 rule for exchanging?

Grand Pacific Resort has been know to enforce...

The Grand Pacific Resorts, primarily in So Calif has been know to cancel vacations if you violate the 1 in 4 rule for any of their resorts. Primarily they are...

Carlsbad Inn (Carlsbad, CA)
Grand Pacific Palisades (Carlsbad, CA)
Carlsbad Seapoint (Carlsbad, CA)
Southern Calif Beach Club (Oceanside, CA)
Villa L'Auberge (Del Mar, CA) (I think?)
Coronado Beach Resort
Alii Kai, Kauai (I think?)
Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge, in Tahoe (maybe??)

These resorts trade primarily in RCI. Only a few can exchange with II.

You can see the list in the RCI directory/on line in the resort info. The info also restates the 1 in 4 rule.

Exchangers etc. report that they manged to slip by the 1 in 4 rule---but there are also stories that the exchange is canceled at the last minute. Why it takes the exchange co. until the last minute---I don't know!

RCI sent me this list on 9/10/07, but it wasn't even an up-to-date list:

Following is a listing of the RCI-affiliated
resorts in North America currently enforcing a one-in-four year visit
rule for exchange vacations. Also, if the resort has a rule of this
nature it will show up on the resort listing at www.rci.com

We hope this information is helpful.

Anybody know the answer to this: If the resort trades in both II and RCI, does the 1 in 4 apply to both exchange companies? Or could you go trade one year through RCI and the next through II, and they would both be legitimate trades that wouldn't/couldn't be cancelled?

The 1-in-4 rule is an RCI thing. II does not have any restrictions about trading into a resort. So one strategy is to trade through RCI one year and then trade through II (or one of the independent exchange companies). Good luck!

Evelyn

RCI does enforce the 1-in-4 rule, but it is the resorts that request it. II doesn't allow resorts to do it, is my understanding, which is strange because there are more upscale resorts with II, like the Marriotts, Hyatts and Sheraton/Starwood/Westins.

RCI should back off on the restrictions because it makes for a large inventory of some resorts. Why was I able to get a Hilton Seaworld 3 bedroom one year out with a blue week? Because the 1-in-4 keeps that inventory from a large percentage of people with better traders. We bought at PAHIO to get around the 1-in-4 rule.

I love II! Love those Marriotts! I specifically am talking about Disney. If it wasn't for II, we would have to plan our trips differently, always going to different resorts, but because II doesn't have restrictions, we can have our favorite resorts.

Also a reminder that if you own at the resort you are exempt from the 1 in 4 rule. We have back to back weeks booked at Christmas next year at Pacific Shores on Vancouver Island because we own the Christmas week and were able to exchange an October Big Sky unit for the New Year's week.

Sometimes you are exempt within a "family" of resorts

I should add that sometimes you are exempt with a family of resorts IF you OWN ONE of the FAMILY. This is true for the Grand Pacific Resorts-if you own at say, Carlsbad Inn, you can trade into it or Grand Pacific Palisades or Carlsbad Seapoint as often as you want. We own at Grand Pacific because it suits us best-and to get around the 1 in 4 rule for the other GPR resorts since we live in Nor Cal and like to vacation So Cal coastal. I'm guessing there are other "famillies" with the same rules. Maybe Pahio?

I think we heard that if you use RCI Points the 1 in 4 rule does not apply to the Carlsbad Seapoint (Carlsbad, CA) but does apply to all of the other Grand Pacfic resoerts. But check with RCI Points to confirm about theCarlsbad Seapoint (Carlsbad, CA).

That being said we have stayed at the Coronado Beach Resort once and the Carlsbad Inn twince in a four year time period using RCI Points once for the Coronado Beach Resort, and other exchange companies for the Carlsbad Inn.

I think if you rent a 1 in 4 unit that does not count fpr the RCI 1 as a exchange in regards to the one in four rule. But check with RCI as their rules as most of us know tend to change without notice.

We own a week 26 at the Rushes RCI resort number 5082 because of the 1 in 4 rule but more importantly because it is very hard to get as a summer exchange.
