If you are a Platinum member of Marriott Rewards, be sure you ask for your Platinum Arrival Gift when you check in. I was there earlier this month and the agent did not offer and I forgot to ask for my gift. In the past the only option was the 500 Marriott Reward Points so not a big deal. When the 500 points did not show up in my account when the stay posted, I called Ko 'Olina and asked that they correct the posting. The agent looked at the account and apologized for not making the offer at check in. She told me they now offer a few different options, all that are better than 500 points.

Apparently they now offer a choice of :

Unlimited Soda Cup

1 Day Free Cabana

$25 Credit at Longboards

or 500 points.

I would have definitely chose anything but the 500 points, but since the stay was past, that was my only option.

I did ask at Kauai Beach Club the following week and they only offer the 500 points. I think Maui Beach Club may offer other options as well.

Yah, those other options are worth a lot more than a lousy 500 MRPs that Marriott values at a little over $6.

Or, give them a chance to make the offer and if they don't, claim your $100 Guarantee compensation before you check out. (Check out the Rewards T&C's here; scroll down to #1 under, "Additional Platinum Membership Benefits," and #7 under, "Elite Benefits Guarantee ...")

*******
I think you're correct, Maui Ocean Club and now Ko 'Olina are the first two MVCI resorts to offer something other than the 500 MRP for Plat Arrival Gifts. It'd be nice if the other resorts follow suit.

It appears these 'platinum' rules and gifts are in for downgrades everywhere. No more wine&cheese ... Just a $10 credit to your bill? Bad move Marriott. Apparently the $100 compensation is ending too.

This is what we were offered for the Plat arrival gift at our last Ko Olina stay, and we took the $25 credit at Longboards. We had a nice lunch there, and I hope they keep these options.

Maui Ocean Club also offered a credit at Longboard's when we were there in February. However, it was only offered on their overpriced (full price) menu items. It was not a true credit you could apply to any bill.

I will be staying at Ko'olina shortly and appreciate any Marriott Platinum arrival gifts. Thanks to wvacations, it looks like this resort offers more value to their best customers beyond the expected 500 points. That's good business. After calling the front desk, I reconfirmed the following value. I like options as a lifetime member and owner.

Unlimited soda cup ($34.95 + tax)
1 Day Free Cabana ($35 + tax?)
Restaurant Credit ($25)
500 points ($6+)
