Heading to Grand Lake in April for spring break, anyone have any recommendations? Traveling with my wife and three sons (11, 10, and 8). Looking mostly for inexpensive options, but interested in learning any information about the area.

Thanks

B

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
For those that have never heard of Wyndham Grand Lake (like me- so I googled) it is in Afton, Oklahoma. I think it is traditionally a Worldmark resort which must have some Wyndham designated units.

Several years ago, a settlement agreement that ended a member vs Wyndham lawsuit required Wyndham to take back units at several under utilized resorts (appx 400 units at 11 resorts) and retire the associated credits

So what was Wyndham to do with these units???

What they did was to add most of them them to club Wyndham Access

Read all about it here

I wish they would have made provisions, for going forward on splitting inventory on new developments, so that some would be WM and some Wynd. That would have been nice.

Why Trendwest chose to build a resort at this location is a bit of mystery to me. We have stayed there twice. It is off the beaten path. If you play golf, fish, or have a boat it might be a good choice. The resort is not lake-front like Lake of the Ozarks. Seems to me that Trendwest bought the property on the cheap, hoping the area would get built out. Which it hasn't IMHO. It is a community to retire to if you like to golf and boat.

Nothing really in the area other than that, and a car museum. Assuming you are coming off I-44 be sure to pickup groceries before you leave the highway. Not much in terms of grocery or places to eat. There is small state park about 15 miles up the road. Some casinos on the reservation.

We used it as base to visit the Fredrick Douglas NHS and Pea Ridge National Battlefield. Both within a 90-120 minute drive one-way.

If you find something interesting to do in the area, please report back.

Let me know if you find any events in that clickfest. I clicked on about 20 and all I got was "No Event Found".
I didn't find anything either, but it's also the wrong location. Wyndham Grand Lake is in Afton, OK. NOT Grand Lake O the Cherokees....

I am here now. IMO, it is a pretty lame location - surrounded by an amazing golf course and resort that you can't use unless you are a member or staying in Shangrila resorts, and there is very little actually connected to the lake that you can access - basically a boat ramp. We did visit the Har-Ber Villiage, which was pretty cool, and did the Pensacola Dam tour - also pretty cool (for National Lampoon Vacation fans, the dam tour guide is a fun part of the dam tour). If anyone comes here, I recommend both. Other than that, you may need to rent a boat to do anything super fun.

Dollar General nearby has some cheap groceries (no meats/produce). Milk, eggs, cheese, basic frozen foods, canned goods, snacks. Inexpensive. There is a small store with a gas station nearby (Littlefields) with limited produce and meat for more expensive groceries, but convenient.

Farther out is a Walmart store for more groceries, and a full grocery store is near the Pensacola Dam, so if you plan to tour, do it early in your trip and you can pick up groceries on the way back.

There are BBQ grills for every unit, which is nice if you are prepared with food to grill. Also the units themselves are REALLY nice - I expected more like Lake Lure 1970s decor, but they were nicely updated and very clean. The Murphy bed is definitely a step up from the sofa bed.

There is Darryl Starbird's National Rod & Custom Car Hall of Fame Museum. Never seen so many unusual looking cars in my life.

In Miami (Pronounced My Yama) Oklahoma there is Vintage Iron, a motorcycle museum. Don't know if that worth the drive. It is on a historic section of Route 66.

You are right, however, not a lot to do there.
