What to do with Holiday Inn Club Vacations points?

A family member of mine has a large amount points through Holiday Inn Club Vacations. We're considering renting rooms because they can make a reservation for others through their website - is this safe and/or allowed? We understand it would be ok for friends and family, but what about guests through craigslist, other online classifieds, or using a website like Vrbo or Airbnb?

Are there other options of what to do with these points? Can we sell them and transfer to another member?

We'd eventually like to sell the properties these points came from, but since annual fees have already been paid for, doesn't it make sense to try to make the annual fees back?

Apologies if I'm not understanding how points work - we're both new to timeshares and trying to figure out what to do with these properties and the points/benefits that come with them.

Let me caveat that I am not a timeshare owner. I rent from people when I do vacation. I have rented mostly Wyndham. I am looking to rent HICV if I can find something in my price range and availability.

Other owners will be able to provide details, but my understanding is that you are more than welcome to rent to people directly.

You are allowed to rent out HICV reservations. You will want to reserve popular resorts and dates. I am assuming these are 2017 points. You want to take a look and see if there are summer and week 51/52 available now. If you wait until all the popular times are reserved it will be difficult to rent less popular times in order to cover all or even some of the MF's. Most HICV resorts have very little resale value. Some have a little. Depending on what they own they may be better off asking for a deedback to the resort if it is paid off rather than finding a buyer/taker.

You can rent HICV reservations out to others. The key is to find something that will rent for enough demand / money to cover cost . Anyway you see fit to advertise your rental is ok.

Points will revert back to just week ownership if sold to somebody who is not family.(having little if any value) Unless it is a ownership from Myrtle Beach, Gatlinburg, or Lake Geneva, these stay points.

Depending on how many points, if putting a effort into it you can recoup money back just fine.

You can not transfer points to another member. You can sell points needed making reservations for others at any of our 26 locations. You just put the reservation in renters name. Your doing all the work, it would be hard to advertise this way.

Good luck !
Dave
