We'll be at Morritt's Grand and in Grand Cayman for the first time in April, not counting cruises. We'd appreciate any restaurant recommendations and anything else you think we should know. Thanks.

Here is a summary of the restaurants we went to when we were there back in 2011:

Rum Point Club Restaurant – take catamaran from Red Sail dock near Grand Caymanian. Food good, service slow. They don’t look like they can handle a full boat when it comes in. They won’t seat a party of 2 at a table for 4 with ocean view.

Guy Harvey’s Island Grill – downtown Georgetown across from the cruise ship terminal. Upstairs water front patio. Stopped for drinks.

Hemingways – in the Grand Cayman Beach Suites on West Bay at 7 mile beach close to Grand Caymanian. Food good, view good, service fair but fast – asked me how I wanted burger and delivered it well; asked for salad instead of fries and got fries.

Rackams – on West Bay just before getting into downtown Georgetown, this side of Casanova’s. Craig at the Grand Caymanian said bar food is better than Paradise Grill. Specialty drinks don’t have much booze. View not as good as Paradise Grill. Lots of locals were there. You can feed the tarpons @ 7:30 weekdays and I think all day Saturday.

The Cracked Conch – West Bay across from the car museum. Get a table on the patio or outside deck. Food & service good, only one of a few places I left more than the 15% automatically added to the bill.

Casanova’s – recommended by Craig @ the Grand Caymanian. Get a table on the balcony – outdoor tables are on the sand. Food good, service a bit rushed. Did leave more than the 15% added to bill.

Lighthouse – West Bay past Georgetown on way to Rum Point. About a 40 minute drive from Grand Caymanian. Food & service good. Limited menu (lots of shellfish and pork, but bengie dessert was HUGE and great. Did leave more than the 15% added to bill.

Coconut Joe’s – West Bay @ 7 mile beach across from Comfort Suites close to resort. Basic bar food, good service & specialty drinks. You sit under a huge tree outside.

Calypso Grill – Morgan’s Harbor. Right on West Bay, turn before Cracked Conch. Great location, food & service. Outside patio.

Papagallo – Right on West Bay, turn before Cracked Conch. Look for sign. Discount card in desk drawer picked up at Grand Caymanian. Great food & service. Patio is screened in, has a room with parrots.

Michael’s – Camana Bay left on Esterly Tibbets. Eclectic food, good food & service.

On the Edge – Rum Point hour and 15 minute drive from Grand Caymanian. Great view, poor service, good bar food. Good place to go and have a drink and have bar food.

Paradise Grill – in Georgetown, at the end of the shopping district – (opposite end from Casanova’s). Just stopped in for a drink. Better view than Rackam’s. Craig from the Grand Caymanian said food was not as good as Rackam’s. Specialty drink was good.

Our favorite is Kaibo. The beach bar is fun and casual, the upstairs is fine dining only open on the weekend. Both excellent.
Also, I believe the correct name is Over the Edge, not On the Edge, referred to in previous post.

Some restaurants closer to Morritts:

Over the Edge has already been mentioned. Good local place has some good specials and dinners that we would consider more than just bar food.

Good summary on Kiabo. They have a good beach BBQ on Tuesday night with a live band.

Tukka is not far from the resort and will even pick you up. They have happy hour specials and different daily specials with a good brunch on Sunday. If you are there at 5:00 p.m. they feed the birds down on the beach by hand and it's interesting to watch, especially for kids.

Bombay Chopsticks is close to Tukkas. I believe they are closed on Mondays. We have always had very good meals there.

Right across the street from the resort is a very good Italian restaurant also closed on Monday.

The Lighthouse restaurant is not far and your resort host can give you a card for 10% off.

Vivian's is a small local place with service on the patio of her house. But excellent food at reasonable prices and a great way to really try some local food and drinks. It's just before you get to Tukka on the left as you're coming from the resort.

David's restaurant at the resort serves very good food and has specials on different nights so be sure and check those out when you are planning on which days to dine out. We love Saturdays "all you can eat lobster night." The menu at Mimi's dock bar is pretty good too if you don't want a big dinner.

The Reef resort next door used to make really good pizza but it wasn't good a couple years ago. We've heard they have a new chef now and the pizza is good again. So we are going to give it a try again this year. May also check out their restaurant next door when the Barefoot Man is playing. He's really good! We also like to go over when Lammie is playing. Might want to check them out.

Hope you have a great time! Enjoy your time at Morritts!

If you're interested in very casual, try Big BBQ. It's set up on someone's lawn and they are open most days. They have food that appeals to Americans and to the locals as well. The folks there are really friendly and you can learn a lot about the island from them. You can eat it there or take it back to the resort. Also very reasonably priced. They take American or Grand Cayman money.

Big BBq will also deliver if you order by Phone. Another place not mentioned is The White House in Bodentown across from the Police Station. Really fantastic setting whether you eat inside or outside on the gigantic deck. Has an excellent menu and the food is fantastic. If you are looking for fine dinning I would make this a must.

We love the fish fry outside of Eastern Star Bar next to the gas station in East End, not far from Morritt's. It is only on Sunday afternoon until they run out of food. A very casual place where you eat at picnic tables overlooking the water. Extremely fresh seafood, local fare, and very reasonable prices.
