Hello mtwingcpa, thank you for the feedback. Are the programs you're talking about points programs?

Craisegolfer - This is a huge and expensive undertaking - do you currently own any timeshares? If not, I would suggest a couple of things:

-Decide what properties you are interested in and rent there first to see if you like them.

-Start off with ONE week, or enough points for a one week reservation, and try out the timeshare process first.

Starting off with a huge purchase may not be a good idea.

Hello Denise,

Thank you very much for your thoughts...much appreciated.

We're two years away from being Empty Nesters and definitely plan on visiting multiple destinations throughout the next two years before making any large purchases. In two years we are intrigued with the thought of living 3 months out of the year away, but preferably not all at one location.

Kind Regards,
Gerald

Timesharing is not for everyone. You may not like the resorts, or you may find the advanced planning, and picky timeshare rules to be tiresome.

We have people who come to TUG all the time who are disenchanted with timesharing, because they don't like the detailed planning, and reservation deadlines, and the other details that you have to master to be successful.

You don't want to find this out AFTER you have purchased 3 mos. of ownership, so definitely try it out before you make a big commitment.

I agree with Denise (almost always) Obtaining several months' accommodations in resort areas via timeshares will be a difficult and time consuming adventure. Perhaps checking with property management firms, or even rental agencies in the area(s) where you are interested in spending the time and signing a short-term lease. That would give you what you want without any long-term commitment.

I can certainly understand what you want to do, but feel strongly that doing it through timeshares is the equivalent of enjoying the daily latte and going to a livestock auction for a herd of cows to provide the milk. Overkill.

I was curious so I looked at my resort in NC in RCI points. It appears that RCI has a limit of 3 consecutive weeks booked at the same time. I tried 10 different check ins and got no more that 21 days straight.

Yes, you cannot book more than 21 day in rci points system

Dear Gerald (Craisegolfer)
I've been a Tug member for a year now, but only signed on to BBS today, and found your thread when I searched for FRACTIONAL SHARES.
I have been an owner at Ocean Palms Resort at Port Royal ( on Hilton Head) for over 20 years now, and RCI points member....and nearlyALL of our units are fractional shares. Did not know whether you ever decided what to do about multiple weeks, but thought I would offer you some information about what we have here on Hilton Head Island. A fairly nice percentage of our owners are "snowbirds" who annually use their condos for the first 10 weeks of the year. Most of us have rotating weeks (2 weeks on, 8 weeks off..with 5 owners to each building) throughout the year. We have a contract with 7 golf courses on the island for play, where our fees are a fraction of local rates (as we pay a cart fee only). My grandkids grew up vacationing here over the years...and we have enjoyed it so much that we moved to the area full time about 10 years ago.
If you still have an interest in finding out how this arrangement works, just let me know.
Regards,
Gary

Brigantine Quarters and Ocean Palms Resort @ Port Royal are examples of fractional ownership timeshare. These two (2) resorts are located on Hilton Head Island, SC. :hi:

Westin St John has a few legacy fractional products still out there. They are either 4 weeks or a month in a row in the same villa every year.

The OP didn't mention where he/she wanted to own. If a person wants to book multiple weeks or even month, they would appear to want to occupy the unit. So, to the OP, where do you want to stay?

The only two fractional ownerships of which I am familiar are (1) the Sands of Kahana (Maui) and Grand Residence (Marriott) - Tahoe.

Why don't you come back and tell us what location would be interesting to you?
