I like the Dad exchange above.

Along with the willingness to accept an absurd answer because you haven't estimated, my favorite gripe is signs that say things like "Los Angeles 60 mi 96.56 km "; that is, understanding of degree of precision.

I always think the signs should say something like "LA 60 (or so) Miles":D.

Cheers

I am a true math-phobic. I am probably math learning disabled. I'm ok up to about 6th grade level. Anything that just required rote memorization. I have no comprehension of higher level more abstract concepts. I failed algebra twice, barely passed geometry. No more math after that. I would have loved to become a veterinarian but couldn't do chemistry either. The math part.

I have a degree in math and it came easy for me . I have always hated the drudgery of arithmetic like balancing a check book. Mental math which is what we mostly do daily is enjoyable. I tried teaching high school math and found that teaching three algebra classes a day was boring to me. Math is a great separator of what paths are open to you in life. In teaching math I found only about 10% of students really understood math,80% learned mechanically how to perform steps, and about 10% never understanding math no matter what is done. And many who didn't understand were strong academically in other areas.
