Just saw this article regarding the Alladin in Vegas. The article mentions that the new Planet Hollywood will have 1200 timeshare residences opening in 2009 and that Starwood will retain 15% ownership. SVN I wonder?

Planet Hollywood plans Vegas opening

LAS VEGAS- Hollywood celebrities and superstar athletes turned out Tuesday for a flashy presentation to announce that the former Aladdin hotel-casino would stage its grand opening as the rebranded Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on Sept. 28 and 29.
"We will be throwing the biggest party that Las Vegas has ever seen," said actor Bruce Willis, who was joined by actress Carmen Electra and athletes Roger Clemens, Pete Sampras and Sugar Ray Leonard in introducing the revamped resort.

A $1 billion makeover of the Arabian-style resort on the Las Vegas Strip has been in the works since private partnership OpBiz bought the bankrupt property in 2004 for about $500 million.

The finished Planet Hollywood property is expected to have 2,600 movie-themed guest rooms and suites, along with two 50-story towers with 1,200 time-share residences, set to open around the end of 2009.

Opbiz co-chairman Robert Earl, who founded the Planet Hollywood International Inc. restaurant chain, also introduced several nightclub and restaurant offerings from New York steak house Strip House to L.A. celebrity hangout and pan-Asian restaurant Koi.

"We scoured the planet and found some great attractions," Earl said.

A touring rhythmical show created by the producers of "Stomp," called "Stomp Out Loud," has opened at the property in a new $28 million theater. The property also has added a show by magician Hans Klok,
who will have Electra as an assistant for three months.
TV newsmagazine "Extra" will open a lounge to conduct celebrity interviews and keep patrons up to date with entertainment news, while Panasonic provided 5,000 plasma displays for public areas and guest rooms.

Boulevard Invest LLC announced last month that the shops in the attached Desert Passage shopping mall at the property would begin operating as Miracle Mile Shops in May.

OpBiz is a partnership that includes Earl, private equity investor Bay Harbour and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. Earl and Bay Harbour Management have a joint venture with an 85 percent interest in the property while Starwood holds the remaining 15 percent.

I wonder if the timeshares will be on the back side, near Koval street? Seems likely since they usually don't use the frontage on the strip for residential, but instead for a casino and entertainment entrance.

The timeshare is a Westgate branded timeshare and has been in active sales for sometime now under the Westgate name. They have timeshare tour sign up booths in the PH casino. I find it interesting that the booths in the Miracle Mile shops (old Desert Passage) are Consolidate booths (Tahiti Village). That just has to burn Mr. Seagull to no end.

They are located on Harmon Ave. behind the PH hotel and casino. They are almost directly across the street from Marriott's Grand Chateau.

There are several condo projects on the strip that will have strip frontage. The Cosmopolitan, which is being built just north of MGM's City Center and around the old Jockey Club is probably the best example. Sky and Allure, while on the north end of the strip still have strip frontage.

BTW, MGM/Mirage is to announce today the purchase of the land that was to become the Maxim hotel and casino as well as the vacant lot across from the Sahara. They will now own everything north of Eschelon Place up to Sahara Dr. except for the property that the Sky condo's sit on and the HGVC LV Strip property. The word is they have a grand redevelopement plan for that parcel which includes upgrading Circus Circus (not tearing it down, just renovating) but, as with anything in Vegas, I'll just take a wait and see attitude.

From what I've been reading, I don't think I'd take what a few salesman have said to the bank. I watch Vegas relatively closely and have heard nothing about TS's at the W. But then again, there's not a lot of information that I've seen on this build yet. While it could happen, saleman are notoriously bad sources of information.

After reading a lot of things about this on TUGG, I decided to send an email and received this reply on March 31;

The Aladdin Resort and Casino will eventually become a Planet Hollywood facility. It may also be a timeshare, however, the word is still out.

High Country Club at the W Vegas

I know that High Country Club has had a pre-construction contract with the Vegas W for over a year. It would be highly unusual for the W to allow both Destination Clubs and timeshares by a developer in the same project. But then again, this is Vegas!

Things change very rapidly in Vegas. Up until yesterday, there was to be a hotel/casino called Maxim built north of Boyd's Eschelon project and south of Circus Circus. As of yesterday MGM/Mirage has reached an agreement to buy that land. Now the plans have completely changed for it's usage.

Until ground is broken and a building starts going up, you can never count on anything in Vegas.
