The staff at SMUGGLERS' NOTCH RESORT has notified us that effective April 28, 2017, the resort will charge a Mandatory Resort Fee. RCI guests arriving on or after Friday April 28, 2017 will be notified by RCI of the following mandatory fee per stay based upon unit size:.$20 studio or one bedroom.$30 two bedroom.$40 three bedroom.$50 four bedroom

Got this in an email today from RCI. :( We check in to Smuggs in August. The $30 won't break us, and I was planning on purchasing the smuggspass anyway. Glad they told us well ahead of time.

I would imagine that would be on top of the smuggspass fee. I wonder what the resort fee is covering. I wonder if it includes wifi which was never covered in the past or just use the single pool in the area where you are staying.

I am trying to figure out what this is for and who it is for exactly, but it seems like it must be a cleaning fee since it is based on the size of the unit. Probably just for exchangers. You would think RCI would mention what the fee is for!

I was thinking it might be for part of the cleaning fee. I understand that it is in addition to the Smuggs pass....not in lieu of. Would be wonderful if it applied to wifi, but probably not. Sigh. We still love Smuggs, and it is far cheaper than the $250 I had to pay at Grand Summit Sunday River a few years ago (NEVER again).

WiFi is paid for by the exchangers or renters and also by owners each visit already, so that is not it. Also- you can use the pool in the complex you are staying in IF there is a pool. That is included in everyone's maintenance fees. If a building does not have a pool, you have to buy a pass.

I think it is for cleaning.

$250? For what?

The whole point of a resort fee at a timeshare is to pay for something already included and paid for by owners. They base it on size because you usually have more people using the amenities if you have a larger size unit. As it is the Smuggs pass at a flat rate is a pretty good deal if you have a 2 or 3 bedroom with 8-10 staying but not so good of a deal if you have a studio with 2-3 guests total in the unit.

So my understanding is I won't pay this fee on my week that I own on even years, but will pay this fee when we exchange in with RCI on our float years.
