Hi, I was thinking about trading into Myrtle beach next year. Is this resort a difficult trade during the summer? I know the resort is not on the beach, are the beaches in the area nice and open to the public? Thanks, Sue

I doubt if it's a difficult exchange anytime. Looks like a nice resort, but since it's not on the beach, I think that's a big strike against it.

It's an easy exchange except for the summer months, when a large percentage of platinum season owners, which consisted of 35 weeks in the original phase, are trying to use approximately 10-11 school vacation weeks (a 3:1 ratio of "bright red" to "platinum" weeks). In fairness to Starwood, I think the original developer (Embassy) set the original seasons.

I was glad to see that Starwood fixed the seasons in the new phase:

Original Platinum Season: 9-43

New Platinum Season: 24-35

I've never seen more than a few summer summer weeks available through II, even with the Starwood preference. But, it's possible that many are deposited and picked up with ongoing requests.

Give it a try, you have nothing to lose. But, you might want to have a backup plan just in case.

I can't offer any input on availablity, but we do go to Myrtle Beach often. The resort is about 5 blocks removed from the ocean, not a big deal. Access to the beach is fairly easy. There is public access to the beach almost every block. If you go early in the morning, parking close may not be a problem. Later in the day you may have to park a couple streets up from the beach.

I have read that booking into Myrtle Beach during the summer is difficult at all of the Timeshares in Myrtle Beach. Good Luck in your search.

My thoughts on BP

We visted Broadway Plantation last year (August) through a Star Options exchange.

It is true that the resort is not on the beach, but I wouldn't call that a strike against it. The ocean is five minutes by car, and there are so many beaches that access is not a problem. The surf was very strong, so we weren't hitting the beach every day anyway.

This is a very nice resort. We stayed in one of the newer buildings, and it was very clean, well decorated, as one would expect. Walked around the resort quite a bit, and all of the buildings looked just as nice. Did not visit any other rooms, though.

The resort reminds me of Sheraton Vistana Resort in Orlando, without being so spread out. This means, no matter which building you get, you are not far from the pool/bar area.

And this brings me to my particular issue with BP. The pool area just wasn't big enough! True, there are two pools, plus the lazy man, but it wasn't enough. There were a lot of people most all the time using the pools. Saw the plans for the future build out, and I didn't see any future pool areas either. Of course, that could be changing.

The only other issue, is that there is no on site restaurant. You can get basic cooked food at the pool bar, but that bar closes at about 6pm. And no alcohol on Sundays.

That all said, we had a great time at Broadway Plantation. There is so much to do in Myrtle Beach, that the distance to the beaches didn't matter to us at all. I don't mean my thoughts on the pool and the bar to be negatives, just things you should know.

I think BP is a really nice family resort. You should have a great time if you can get in!

Enjoy

I agree with jerseygirl. This resort is very difficult to get during the summer months, even with the Starwood preference. Put in a request, you have nothing to loose. Also, you have a chance to grab something during flexchange. Every once in a while something shows up. This morning, 6/3 showed up. You would need to get lucky, tho.

Thanks for all the replys. Why is there no alchohol served on sundays? I would be trying to exchange in at the 8 month window through SVN, not II. Are my chances better with SVN? Also, since this resort is not on the beach, do the public beaches have bathrooms, and places to buy lunch? Thanks, Sue

OK, I have to ask. What's the lazy man?

Hi Saluki,

Sorry, lazy man = lazy man river. It runs off the newer pool. It's a man made river, you grab a free float and take a little ride. There are little jet streams along the way that push you along.

It's nice.

It only takes a minute or so to go all the way around.

Hi susgar,

On the no alcohol on Sundays, I was told that the resort's license didn't allow it. But it's not a South Carolina blue law thing, as you can buy alcohol elsewhere on Sundays. I wonder if the liquor license is held over from the Embassy days and Sheraton can't get it updated? I don't know.

The public beaches up by where Broadway Plantation is located, do not have public restrooms. At least none I could find. They all have little parking lots as well as outdoor showers for getting the sand off your feet and bathing suit, though. These beaches are snuggled in between private homes. I liked this area very much.

If you go to the middle of the beach area, where the hotels are, you'll have no problem finding bathrooms/places to buy food.

About 20 minutes or so away from BP is a State Park which is on the southern end of Myrtle Beach. It has a convenience store, plus restroom facilities. Best of all the beach area is pristine. The hotels and homes are off in the distance. I enjoyed this beach area best of all. The only thing here is that there is a small charge to use the beach. We visited this just one day, but I think you can buy a pass could for a week, or several days.

Good luck getting in with SVN. BP, last summer, was very crowded. It's a popular resort.

I think all of the summer SVN locations are getting booked up. We are returning to Orlando this year, and almost couldn't get a 2 bedroom for either Vistana Resort or Villages for the entire summer! Finally got something on Thursday 5/3 for mid July at VR. Just two weeks ago, before my vacation was approved, I called and there was plenty of availability for the larger units. It's all gone now! I've learned my lesson, and I won't wait this long to book for summer...even at the large resorts...again!

Have fun,

We found small public restrooms with a very small parking lot straight east, accessing the beach just a few blocks from the resort, you just have to look, take a drive the day before you want to go to the beach and locate them. I believe many of these areas are scattered along the coast. The earlier in the day you arrive the better chance to get a place to park.
