My last workday is Friday, but they wanted my laptop today.
My security-blanket is gone. They giving it to someone else.

They also cleaned my now empty office, including the drawers.
I guess this means that it's really happening.
At least I'll get a free lunch and a plaque out of the deal.

Are you setting up your new hangout at the golf club, the tennis club, the gym, or a casino?

PS Have they cancelled your email address yet?

When I officially retired we had already moved to Santa Fe. My boss was in Atlanta, GA and most of the rest of my work group was in California. So instead of a retirement "party" I got the money due me from the company for the celebration and took my dh, both daughters, sil and bil out for a nice dinner. :whooopie:

Retirement is wonderful. I wish I'd done it years earlier.

Giving up your laptop and office... that's a strange feeling after all those years (I know) but waking up without an alarm and doing what you want, when you want and just going somewhere when everyone else is at work? Those are great feelings that totally make giving up the laptop and desk so much easier. Enjoy!

Congratulations, Talent. If you like traveling or have other hobbies, you will ask yourself later how did you have time to work. I hear all our friends saying this. Enjoy!

I remember those days of hanging out while the 'hand-over' was taking place. Kind of bitter-sweet. Lots of hand shaking and co-workers saying "Wish it was me". You'll be fine, Talent. There REALLY IS life beyond the office between 9-and 5. You just have to go and find it. It won't come looking for you.

Best Wishes, Amigo.

Temporarily unsettling, but exciting. Best wishes for a long, happy and healthy retirement Talent; you've earned it. A new chapter awaits. Enjoy.

I retired sixteen years ago. I,have not been in the building since my retirement date.:whooopie:

My blood pressures number are down and my overall health is better.

Congratulations and enjoy life. No more staff meetings , no more checking the laptop/computer for company emails and no more office gatherings.

You now have a new security-blanket. It is called your time with family and friends. Sound like you need a vacation.

Congratulations, Talent, and very best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement. It sounds like it's both difficult to give up this huge part of your life with which you've identified for so long, but you also are looking forward to the next chapter in your life. When my dad retired, he said "It is only in the autumn of life that the the spring of new opportunities emerges." He and my mom have loved their retirement years. In fact, they're on a riverboat cruise down the Mississippi at this very moment and plan to spend several days in New Orleans when the cruise is over. They do a lot of traveling, get involved on boards of various organizations, and have more time to take a deep breath and enjoy life. Just remember that exercise is the cheapest--by far--form of health insurance, and enjoy this new season of your life.

When I retired my company's IT Department cleaned all the proprietary stuff out of my laptop after which Management gave it to me. Some companies are employee friendly. Some aren't!

Congratulations and enjoy. Once I retired I never looked back. It was scary when I did retired as I retired early. Now you have the luxury of doing what you want.

Thanks to everyone with well-wishes.
I'll admit to being nervous about what's on the other side of the mirror.

Someone told me today that the retired guys can be seen strolling thru Lowe's or Home Depot ~10AM, just looking at stuff. :)

Sounds like something I would do in retirement, but that is several years from now for me. :D

Congrats and have fun!

Heck, that's what I do already and I'm still a ways away from retirement. The only difference is that you can find me in those Home Depot aisles on Saturdays.

Talent312 ... that is NOT correct. I am 4 days out of 5 seen in Home Depot (at either of the 2 near HDs near me) at 10AM. Where everyone knows my name. I know where the FREE coffee is, usually have a personal assistance fetching & lugging my stuff and the lot tech loads my vehicle.

I am a female and far from being retired ... although this month will be qualified in 12 months for Social Security with no penalty discount.

Got Medicare this month.
