I have listed in the last minute rentals section a [prime East Coast location.] Note this is not an Ad. Another member also has listed at least two other last minute rentals for the same week. I don't think either of us have received any offers or even responses and since these are popular resorts and what seems like very good prices, I am just curious why that is?

I have inquired at the rental office of my resort and if they were renting it, they would ask considerably more. Is the Outer Banks just not popular that week or is it that people don't want to vacation for a week at that point in time?

Just looking for some thoughts.

If my children were finished with the school year or had the full week off, I can't think of a nicer place to go than the outer banks. Where I live school ends around June 15-19. My oldest is in high school now and has tests and final projects due the first week and a half of June so I can;t pull him out.

If you have children than finish in May or don't need to pay attention to the school calendar it is a perfect time to visit. It will probably be fairly crowded during the weekend but will calm down during the week. Everything will be open. Long days and less worry about afternoon thunderstorms like in July and August.

A 2-bdm is going to appeal to families, but many schools are still in session then, plus you have end of the year school activities, graduations and weddings at that time. A date later in the summer would be stronger.

As I told my husband, this Outer Banks hasn't gotten less popular

While the kids aren't out yet, these rates are great for anyone whether they need a 2BR or not. Heck, me and my husband recently stayed in a 4BR because we needed to be on the Outer Banks and it was the same as a 1BR.

There's lots of travelers that don't have school-aged children and travelers that prefer the shoulder season and travelers that can travel for the while Memorial Day week.

Rentals for Memorial Day week have rented easily for me in the past. This year is much different.

Hang in there. While I was typing this, I got a renter for one of my Memorial Day weeks (in Virginia Beach). Dropped it to $550. As some say, there is a price point which something will rent. Fortunately, mine hit and covers the maintenance fee with a little left over. :cheer:

Thanks for the responses and information. As it turns out, may be taking ad off but still nice to know. I do realize that "a date later in the summer would be stronger" but Week 22 is the date of one of our three weeks. I don't think I or anyone else for that matter would need to list a mid-July through mid-August week for only $100 a night.
