I have the opportunity to purchase RCI points from a client of my husbands. The points amount is 63,500 per year. THe original purchase was week 25, at a resort in Killington, Vermont.

I have looked on eBay, and see that you could get points just about free. Would I really ever be able to book at Disney World, Europe, or any nice beach resort with these points? We can travel somewhat off season.

What happens if the original purchased resort loses affiliation with RCI? Can that happen?

Thanks for any information.

Someone else today wanted to give away a Killington VT week 11. Coincidence?

Anyway, the sign of a good RCI Points deal is a Maintenance Fee (MF) of under a penny a point a year. Say your resort is valued at 63,500 annual points, you don't want your MF to be over $635/yr. There are some out there with over 100,000 for a MF under $700. You can also count on MF to increase 5-7% a year. Summer weeks in a Ski town are usually lower valued than ski weeks.

You're right. the initial cost is negligible, it's all about MF.

Oh, it's unlikely that the resort can drop out of RCI Points. They can just devalue them- it can take more to go anywhere. Recently, Last calls on Points cost 7500 for move ins less than 45 days away. Now it's 9000 and under 30 days.

There is also the $90/yr RCI membership cost and $189 reservation fee for each RCI Points vacation.

Things to consider:

1. MF to points ratio as Jim said.

2. If you can buy it cheaply

3. Do you want to go to this resort (winter or summer) and need the home resort ARP that owning your points there would give you?

If the answer to 3 is yes it becomes more important in your thinking - if it is no then #s 1 and 2 become more important.

Easy Peasy
