We were supposed check into Belair Beach on SXM on 9/23. Two weeks for us and a week for friends.
We changed last week to Royal Villas on the recommendation of a customer service rep at RCI. She said that once Belair cancels our reservation, our deposit weeks would be refunded as well as the exchange fees and guest cert.
Today, we got the cancellation from RCI. I called to find out when we would get the refund.
This is unbelievable and directly related to cash flow, in our opinion.
We were told that because of Irma, they were not refunding deposits but creating "Coupon Credits" for use on another trade. The amount they had listed was half what we paid upfront. So, we had the exchange deposits for SXM and Mazatlan out there. After climbing the chain of command, we finally found someone who would cancel Mazataln, refund that money and then apply the SXM money. We are still out some money but not all.
So this is a warning..... If you have a trip cancelled because of Irma, call to make sure you get the correct amount credited. At this time, you won't get your money back.
If you can imagine the thousands and thousands of trades and $, coupled with the fact that tourists won't even be allowed back into SXM till probably Feb 2019, RCI is looking at a huge monetary loss. So they are looking for ways to keep their money.
American Airlines would not let us change our tickets to Mazatlan. We were charged a $200 per person change fee.
