Pueblo Bonito Blanco advise

I'm sniffing around a resale listing for Blanco.

1BR unit. Fixed week in May which is a time of year we would love to go. I live in San Diego so flights are super cheap especially out of Tijuana.

The RTU expires in 2020 so basically it would be 3 years of usage and maintenance fees and then I'm done.

Any downside to this if I get it for next to nothing?

I don't see any downsides to this at all! PB Blanco is a lovely place and you have access to the other two PB resorts when you stay there. Having a fixed week at a time you wish to go is another plus. Also, having only three years left on the RTU is a plus in my opinion. Living where you do and having access to inexpensive flights makes this ideal.

If you don't already know about the Facebook page for PB owners take a look. It's a closed group but you can request to join it and it has a wealth of information about all the PB resorts.

I just now looked at the Facebook page to see if they had a resort map in their files and couldn't find one. But, I'm sure if you posted on the page and asked for such a map someone could provide one. Based on the room number I'm assuming it's on the third floor. Since the resort is kind of U-shaped I would imagine any room on the third floor would have a great view out over the pool and to the beach/ocean.

Thank you for the help. I checked Redweek and it appears rentals are not much more than the maintenance fee. But, if it's a really nice unit and I know I'd only have it for three years it might not be a bad move. I'll do more investigating.

I believe you'd also have the ability to exchange it for free through the PB reservations dept. for either the Blanco or Rose or Mazatlan PB for a different week if were available one year.

This is an excellent strategy. I did the same for Velas Vallarta, picked up an every other year contract with only 2 years left on it. We've decided that we can probably do a little better than we're getting for these mf by renting or exchanging to a non-mandatory-AI, so we won't seek another contract after this, so we're delighted we only committed to two use weeks.

I think you made a good call. :D I would add that it is a nice resort in a nice area but if you can rent a sure thing that kind of makes sense.

I was also concerned about the level of service and maintenance during the wind down phase. 2020 is the expiration of the plan. I wonder what the developer will do with the place?

I would think the opposite, that as the contracts were expiring, they would want to ensure the property is tip top, whether to go a new round of suckering gringos or to continue as a traditional resort.

Seems like a good deal for you if you like the season/week and the resort plus you can get there easily. Third floor is always good. We loved it there.
