While I am waiting for Jet Blue to open up their schedule for June booking I am looking to get the rest of my plans in place. We are booked for Smugglers Notch in June and we have a Friday check in. It looks like the flights from SFO out that way are cheaper if you fly in on Tuesday or Wednesday. DH and I were talking about what we could do with our time if we arrive a couple days earlier. It looks like it is about 4 hours from Boston so we thought it would be fun to do some Historical sight seeing. Any suggestions? The Freedom Trail looks like fun and would be educational for the kids (11, 16, & 17).

Boston is a great place for a few days. Try to get a place somewhere in either Boston or Cambridge near the T. Anything in the Back Bay is pretty central and Boston is an easy city to walk. You can spend a week there and still not see everything. The T will get you around pretty well, but not to places farther out.

What is the "T"?

Local nickname for the public transit system, MB"T"A (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority). Consists of buses, subway & streetcar system and the commuter rail segment which reaches out north, south and west into the suburbs (heading east would only go promptly into the ocean ;).

Theo is correct on all accounts. I was referring to the subway portion of MBTA

Theresa, check also on JetBlue flights to Boston. Last time I looked, Oakland to Boston was cheaper than Oakland to NY.

Perhaps beginning in Boston with a leisurely drive over several days to Smugglers will work for you too.

Thanks!!! Between the two I actually prefer flying out of Oakland. It is a smaller less congested airport. :)

Me too!

JetBlue doesn't fiy direct to Boston from Sacramento. Last time we went to Boston we drove to my folks' house in the East Bay and caught the family shuttle to the Oakland airport. Another plus for us when flying out of Oakland!
