Passport renewal since election?

Has anyone sent in to renew your passort since the change in administration, and if so, did it take the usual 4 weeks or so?

I wondered whether with the changes in personnel and new travel policies, it was taking longer. I need to get mine before a summer trip to Europe, not sure whether I should pay to expedite at this point.

My wife mailed her passport renewal on January 31st and received her new passport back on Thursday March 2nd. I think there was some delay because for whatever reason it took almost 7 days for the post office to actually deliver the application, but for the most part, the usual processing times. I wouldn't bother to expedite if you are going to be sending it now.

Having worked in government myself, I don't think the change in admin will affect the work of civil service employees. Most of these folk got their jobs before the last admin and may well be around for the next. About the only thing that changes in the office at this level is the photo on the wall.

OTOH, if the State Department's budget is cut for fiscal year which starts October 1st, that might slow things down in the future.

We have friends who received their Passports back in two weeks. They applied at the Post Office in our town last month. I was so surprised.

I just received passports for my kids 18 days after doing the application at the post office.

Can't do at post office because renewals, otherwise I probably would have gone in a few months ago. The website says usually 4-6 weeks I think, but up to 12, which is why I was concerned, but glad to know they're still on schedule.

My daughter and I are traveling to Aruba in 10 days. She mailed the renewal application 4 weeks ago and hasn't received her passport yet. We are getting a little concerned.

My husband mailed his in a whole year before expiration and got it back in 3 weeks. Best to get it done esrly.

Our renewal passports arrived in 12 days after applications were sent out at the end of January. They didn't expire til Sept/Oct but we felt it would be better to apply sooner rather than wait just in case problems might develop.

Mine won't expire 'til after our return from a summer trip, so I had thought we were ok - but turns out you need to have 6 additional months' validity beyond your stay, to travel to Europe.

I sent in renewals in mid-december. It was around ten days when I got them back. Normal delivery as we had no plans.

We renewed ours about a month ago and both sent in the same day. Mine took 9days and my wife's came back in 10 days.

We (well. DW) are cutting it a bit close. She booked a cruise, and they require 6 months before Passport expiration. The cruise returns to USA on Mar. 19, and her passport expires Sept 21. 6 months, 2 days later. Guess what we will be doing on arrival back home?

State Department budget may be reduced by nearly half according to an article I read this a.m. in the Cleveland Plain Dealer- if this passes, I wonder how passport processing will be affected? Definitely apply soon, Laurie!

Mine won't expire 'til after our return from a summer trip, so I had thought we were ok - but turns out you need to have 6 additional months' validity beyond your stay, to travel to Europe.

6 months is pretty common, not just for Europe.

My wife's new passport arrived in the mail today - slightly less than 2 weeks after submission. I'm impressed. Thought it would take longer.

An accompanying document from the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs, Passport Services said that if you requested a Passport Book and Passport Card (which she did), you may receive three separate mailings; one with your returned citizenship evidence, one with your newly issued passport book, and one with your newly issued passport card.

Since my wife only received her new passport book in this mailing, I expect her new passport card will arrive soon in a separate mailing.

Laurie, you should receive your passport soon.

I forgot to update that my wife's Passport Card arrived a few days after she received her new Passport.

So less than a month for the whole process.

I think people often overestimate the time it takes to renew a passport. Generally 2-3 weeks is the going time frame from my experience and the experience of others we know.
