New WKORV owner--need reservation advice.

We bought a one week resale 2 bedroom oceanview lockoff at WVORV (thanks Syed!) In my perfect (maybe fantasy) world, I'd love to snag Thanksgiving this year. What do you think my chances are of booking it when the 8 month window opens? Any helpful tips?

What I would ultimately want would be the two sides of the villa reserved separately but for the same dates. (We'd be letting other family members use the smaller side, so separate check in, check out, and room charges would be convenient.) Is this something that can/should be done when making the reservation initially? Or would it slow down the process so much as to make the chances of actually getting the whole unit impossible? Am I even allowed to split a 2 bedroom reservation into a 1 bedroom and studio at some future time?

And if I can't get it for this year, I'd like to try for Thanksgiving of 2018 when the 12 month window opens. Again...helpful tips? % chance of success if I do everything just right?

We have had friends staying in the studio half of our unit while we were in the 1 BR side and it was no problem to have them have their own room charges. We just told them at check in and they swiped a credit card for each of us then we just used our respective room number for charges. I would keep it as one reservation for a 2 BR so you don't have to pay the name addition fee, and to improve the odds of booking your desired reservation.

And yes, you can book just the studio or just the 1 BR.

Your best chance for success is to reserve online at exactly midnight eastern time 12 months (or 8 months) out.

At 8 months you can also include WKORVN and Nanea in your search.

Clarification - You cannot get separate check-in, check-out, unless you get a guest confirmation. If the entire 2 bedroom is under you name, you have to check in and out.

However, you can add your guest's names and credit cards at check-in, and key the two sides separately, and still leave your name on the reservation as the owner.

I would not split it into two confirmations: If you split it and get a separate guest confirmation, your guests can be placed anywhere in the resort - and there is no guarantee that they will even be in the same building, much less in the adjoining villa.

Reserve the 2Bd LO.
When you check in - have them supply a CC for their villa - it has a separate villa number.

You should be able to try to make the reservation NOW, not wait until 8mos out. WKORV only has one season, so you don't have to wait as you're always using your home resort to make a home resort booking in the season/unit type you own. I assume you're trying to make a booking in to a OV unit.

Or am I missing something?

Wait, I was looking at a Saturday checkin, there is availability for Sunday checkin.

You're right - I think I looked at the 25th, instead of the 18th. No availability now or at 8 mos. for any of the Maui resorts for Sat. check-in.

Correct - what has been turned in by Owners (or will be turned in at >8 months), and what inventory that is owned by VSE that they put into VSN. Owners and VSE own all the VOIs - there are no other VOIs other than these.

No flights yet, so we're still flexible.

Just to make sure you know:

12-8 mos. before check-in you can make a home resort reservation for exactly what you own.

8-0 mos. before check-in you can make Staroption reservations.

The availability of inventory doesn't change - your access to it changes.

12-8 months if you own a 2 bedroom lock off at WKORV-North (I assume the same for WKORV) you can lock your unit off and reserve a 1 bedroom and studio for the same week or different weeks or 2 bedroom (view category must be the same as what you own: eg oceanview)
