1) Where do you want your home resort to be? Orlando, Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time? I want to trade about 1/2 the time

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations? Depending where I buy...we'd like to visit Colorado, Tennessee, Arizona, Alaska, Canada

4) How many people do you usually travel with? 4-6

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
Anytime
6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
Yes

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes
8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
4-5
9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
$5000 +\-
10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
$1200-1500 right now understanding it will go up
11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
Yes
12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
Yes

We are considering a Marriott resale with platinum floating week...but I want to make sure I will be able to trade so we can go to other resorts too.

Hi VacationDreamer,

I was hoping someone else would have replied by now... I'm just a newbie and I'm just learning the ropes about timeshares.

My suggestions (but I might be wrong):

If you are set on purchasing Marriott, ask your questions on the Marriott subforum section.

How often do you plan to go to Disney? Orlando is over saturated with timeshares, so it is usually easy to trade into.

Maybe you would be better making a Marriott on Hilton Head Island as your Home Resort? Or a Hilton on Myrtle Beach? Maybe someone else can chime in and offer some good suggestions.

my suggestion would be to purchase an Every Other Year 3 bedroom Marriott Grande Vista that is part of the Florida Club. It trades well and is part of the "Florida Club" which allows you to reserve at the 6 month mark to other florida locations. The 3 bedroom can be split into a 2 bedroom and studio for 2 weeks of trading over a 2 year period. The other advantage based on the different locations you mention to visit is you can supplement in later years with another Every Other Year in another system like Hilton/Starwood etc... Really depends on what you like. I own Marriott/Hilton/Starwood and Disney.

Thank you for your response. Do you currently use Interval to trade your Marriott TS at all? I'm reading a lot of posts re: very limited Marriott availability in II?
