So, let's assume I have two floating weeks at Maui Ocean Club. That would give me access to the 13-month reservation window (assuming concurrent or consecutive reservations).

Could I buy (or rent) some points, enough for one-night at the Maui Ocean Club, and use that to gain access to the reservation window 13 months and a day ahead? I'm envisioning having one nights' points, calling 13-months and a day ahead and reserving a Friday night using points, then Sat-Sat for the floating week units. If this works, it would seem that it would significantly increase the chance of getting exactly what I want.

Honestly, I have no idea. I haven't used points in this manner and this is where we, as owners, tend to make the DC Points program more difficult than it needs to be as far as basic understanding.

I'm pretty basic with our usage. I either use our owned weeks, exchange using II in the traditional weeks system or, if our lifestyle dictates it, we'll convert a week to points and make reservations, typically for a full week but maybe with a non-traditional check in day. Sometimes we've gone for only 6 nights instead of 7 to conserve vacation time.

There's a lot of ways an owner can manipulate the system to their advantage. I really try to stick with the basics and I think for most owners, that's probably the best way to view the program. After all, as soon as you find and exploit a loop hole, MVC will adjust and close it.

No, week's calendars and points calendars are different and having points has zero effect on your first date to call in to book a weeks ressie via the traditional weeks system.
