I really need help and advice!! I really feel that my husband and I were RIPPED OFF by Wyndham and since I have found this users group I realize that we are not the first. My husband and sister-in-law inherited 308K Wyndham "Majestic" points in 2011. After the estate was settled it was decided that we would split the points, each family receiving 154K points. Maintenance fees were $75.00 per month. We were fine with paying that amount, but were concerned about special assessments due to damages to the Majestic Sun property. One year after a bad hurricane my in laws had to pay a $12,000.00 special assessment due to damages to the Majestic Sun property. We spoke to two Wyndham sales people about our concerns. They asked why the 308K points weren't in CWA because that would protect us from any future special assessments. The sales people told us if we purchased 105K of CWA points our 308K points would be grandfathered into CWA. So we bought the 105k points for $ 20,000 approximately.
Two years later we attended another "breakfast". This is a decision I HAVE come to REGRET every day since then. The slick sales person told us our 308K points were NOT in CWA and that we needed to purchase another 154K points and then all 567K points would be in CWA. So long story short - we owe Wyndham approximately $ 40,000. I really feel that we were lied to by, not one, but two different Wyndham sales people. This has never seemed right. Any feedback? Do we have any recourse against Wyndham? Any advice?
Thank you.

If you are still within the timeframe, 5-10 days depending on which State you were in when you purchased the last points, you can rescind the sale. Other than that you probably have no recourse.

$20k is awfully high for only 105k points or even 154k points!

There is no such thing as grandfathering your points into CWA. The only way to have all your points in CWA was for them to take back all the previous deeds, giving you credit for them and selling you a new contract of all CWA points. Do you know how to log into your account and look at the details of your ownership to see if you are deeded at a specific resort(s), have CWA points or a mix of both?

Did this last purchase at least make you silver VIP? Did they give you enough bonus points to get you to Gold for two years?

Jan - unfortunately I am not within the time period to rescind. The first two sales people we spoke to told us the Majestic points my father in law owned should have been moved into CWA. My father in law was NEVER given the option to transfer Majestic points to CWA (thru taking back previous deeds, giving him a credit and buying a new contract of all CWA points).

We are NOT deeded at a specific resort, we just have CWA points.

What would a reasonable amount be for 105 or 154 CWA points be?

So if we were out and out lied to by Wyndham sales people, we have absolutely no recourse? Would calling the State Attorney General's office, Consumer Protection Division (Florida and Louisiana where we live), not have any impact at all? Are there not any laws to protect the consumer? These guys out and out lied to us.
I am really thinking about contacting an attorney to look into this. Any thoughts?

Shame on us for not doing our research, but if my husband had not felt so bad that day when we purchased the second 154K points, we might have done something different.

I do know how to log into my account.

Yes we were made SILVER VIP and given 195K bonus points.

Thanks!

Seems a little high, but it could be accurate. 308K points would be two weeks in a two bedroom unit during high season. When Santa Barbara got hit with one it was about $3500 per week for a studio unit If I recall correctly.
