Arriving in Munich early on 7/21 and cruise boards in the late afternoon on 7/22 in Regensburg. Would like to stay overnight in Munich and do a tour of the city before heading to Regensburg. My questions are:

1) Is it easy to take the train from the airport to the city? We're 2 senior women with luggage
2) Where would you stay in Munich? Prefer Starwood or Marriott.
3) How would we arrange a tour of Munich that will be safe and not a ripoff?
4) How do we get to Regensburg? We could go back to the airport and use the travel agent transfers or take a train from Munich.

Any advice will be appreciated.

2) We stayed at the LeMeridian close to the Oktoberfest which was going on at the time. The hotel was modern and adequate but underwhelming compared to other SPG properties we experienced in Europe. You may want to check out other hotels.
3) For just being there one day, I would recommend taking the hop on hop off bus. They have several routes for one price, and go all over the city. It gave us a good over view of the city and we dropped off at the places that interested us. I would not recommend the ones that have a live commentator, they tended to be not as informative and more ad-lib.

Dunno about from the Munich airport... We took the train from Frankfurt airport.
The Central Train Station (München Hauptbahnhof) is just 2-blocks from the old-city.
For tours, HO-HO is a good option, or check out www.viator.com - a tour broker.

I'd stay at Eden Hotel Wolff (4*), right across the street from the station.
The Soffitel is also close. I'd only use a Starwood or Marriott if I had points to use.

Google shows Regensburg can be simple 2-hour train ride (1-change).
The Regensburg station is literally within steps of the old-city.
