We've had our July 1-8 reservation at the Seapointe in Carlsbad planned since September of 2005. I got a call from RCI today telling me it was cancelled because the resort over-booked.
First of all, I exchanged a GPR resort-- the San Clemente Cove. Don't we have exchange priority? Second, how could a resort like this over-book? And, if they have to bump a reservation, shouldn't my reservation take precedent since I booked it about two years out?
This is vacation time-- time off, time my kids have been looking forward to at a resort they've been wanting to go to. How could this happen?

Were you then assigned a specialist who handles these situations? Just awful for your family.

RCI called me yesterday afternoon to let me know they were able to reinstate my reservation. I had called membership services for GPR members, and I had been in contact with board members from Seapointe. I think the reinstatement of my reservation was an exception to the normal operating procedure.

I have to wonder now:
1. Understanding mistakes happen, why doesn't RCI have a more amicable way of dealing with situations like this. The airline model is to offer an incentive to someone who can be flexible. Would it be possible for RCI to utilize a model like this?
2. How could an error like this happen? I know Seapoint is unique in that it's the only GPR resort tied to Points and Weeks. Was there some confusion as to where weeks were to be allocated?

That is unconscionable. I'm wondering if the resort was the problem, as RCI said it was, or was RCI the problem. They should NOT overbook. It is not an airline where they can put you on the next flight. If we can't count on our exchanges being valid, why even do timesharing where we have to make exchanges so far ahead of time? I'm glad they got it worked out for you, but it should never have happened in the first place!

If folks keep responding it will lengthen the time that it takes Madge to answer. She answers the oldest posts first.
