I'm going to the BI next March and I'm wondering if any Tuggers have stayed at the Marriott Waikoloa since it has been converted to timeshares?

We didn't stay there but up the street with Hilton. I can't comment on the units but the resort has a great location for the area IMHO. Rocky beach in front of the resort but a short walk to a nice sand beach referred to as A-bay. Good shopping, decent restaurants and an ABC store that's called Island Gourmet instead of ABC. If we go back to the Big Island we'd prefer this resorts location to any of Hilton's timeshare offerings in the area.

I just wonder how the size of the units compares to the Hilton timeshares? I still prefer the Bay Club, among the Hilton timeshares, due to the unit, and lanai, size. I don't know how a re-done hotel room would compare.

I'm back and answering my own question. I did some searching and found the square footage for the Marriott units. The one bedroom is 800 square feet, with 100 square feet of outside space. The two bedroom is 1200 square feet with 150 square feet of outside space.

Bay Club one bedroom units are 878 square feet and two bedrooms can range from 1118 to 1484. Kingsland one bedroom are 561 and two bedroom are 875. I couldn't find Kohala Suites, but they should be somewhere between Bay Club and Kingsland in size.

I really enjoyed the 2 bedroom plus duplex at the Bay Club......until I got a look at the Marriott's location and grounds. I've been suspect of any hotel conversion so I went with Hilton this trip. If I'm to believe the trip advisor reviews, which I view as suspect when it comes to timeshares, they still have some work to do. I suspect any bumps in the road will be worked out by the time we consider the Big Island again.

We will be staying there this fall for the first time. We did stop by the resort a couple years ago and really liked the location and the grounds.

We have stayed in the Marriott hotel conversions on Maui and Kauai, so it will be interesting to see how the Waikoloa property turns out. I look forward to hearing from people who stay there once it opens soon through the early fall.

Best regards.

I think it opens in late spring if I'm not mistaken? I've seen a couple of June weeks in Interval for sure.

I've stayed in Waikoloa before and I share your interest in seeing how this hotel conversion works out compared to MOC and KBC. The location is great, so I could probably live with the limited kitchen.
