Marriott/Interval canceled my request once it matched

I'm a bit confused and annoyed. I placed a request in II in January for a couple of different western US Marriott resorts in Sept 2018 (yes, I'm a good long range planner). It matched, sat in pending status for a few days, and then disappeared. I called II, and they informed me that it was cancelled by Marriott, but no reason was given. My exchange fee was refunded. The annoying part is if I didn't watch my account regularly, I would have no idea that my exchange was not still active.

II opened a new exchange request for me, but I am now 9 months behind my original request position in line.

Anyone here have any idea why this might have happened? It's been more than 2 years since I stayed in any of these resorts, so I don't think I've violated any multiple visit rules.

What resort were you exchanging in to and what resort were you using for the request? Was the request placed using a deposit or a Request First search? If Request First, is it possible that there was something wrong with the unit information/confirmation number you provided with the request?

Points based exchange from Townes @ Kings Creek in Williamsburg. Matched to Marriott Timber Lodge. Kings Creek doesn't give a discount for call in vs. online exchanges, so I always call a rep instead of entering my own information. I can see everything in my online account, and it was correct. Request first - deposit first is only an option if you're depositing a full year. I've matched at this same resort before, using Kings Creek without an issue, so I'm also assuming that it isn't an equivalency problem. My guess is that it was human error, but no one wants to own it. If so, well, these things happen. As long as I can get it fixed, it's a speedbump on the road of life.

They can fix the request date so that at least you're not further back in line though you might have missed another exchange in the few days you were out. They can also put you on a priority wait list which they really should in this situation. My guess is that the exchange you received was in error or taken back in some way so it really wasn't available.

There really is no line with II. Your place in the queue is based on the trade power of your deposited unit vs the trade power of others you are competing against. If you put in a request today and someone with a better unit comes along three months later. They will get the match before you would even though you put your request in first.

However, with a request first, your deposit strength is based on the time you place the request, so that can be impacted in a situation like this.

If it is Request First, depending on the resort you may have to pay MF ahead of time. If not, the trade will be cancelled because the (requesting) resort will not release the week and thereby the trade will get cancelled. Please make sure you check with your resort. It may have nothing to do with II or Marriott.
