Beach is poor in front of the Hyatt/Residence Club (thin from shoreline back, gray sand, and as I remember...some sizeable rocky areas in the water ). I have never been a boogie boarder, but I don't think there are generally any desirable waves for such activity at the Hyatt.
HOWEVER, a 5-8 minute walk north up the beach...past the neighboring Marriott complex...and in front of the Kaanapali Alii, there should be good waves. At the Alii, a point of land juts out, with two waves coming from two slightly different directions...and at least one of them should be good for boogies. This is a wide beach area, where there are usually surfboard instruction classes going on all day long. [I believe there are usually lots of different board activities there, such as boogie and longboards.] The beach, in front of the Alii is generally thinner during the summer, but by Thanksgiving each year usually gets MUCH deeper and draws lots of sunbathers...and WAY MORE than would ever be interested in sitting out in front of the drab/small Hyatt shoreline. Also, the sandy beach in front of the Alii extends quite a ways from there and to the North (towards the Westin and far beyond).
I expect that there will also be comments from the tons of timesharers who stay at the Marriott...right next door to the Kaanapali Alii. There should be lots of persons with families and boogie board experience at this part of the beach.
