I just got home from HHV Waikiki. I stayed at my home week in the Lagoon Tower in a standard 2/2 on the Marina/Pool side of the tower. This was a corner 2/2 room near Luau with two balconies. It was my first stay at the Lagoon Tower since my resale purchase two year ago. I was very pleased with the accommodations.

2008 was HHV Rainbow Tower, Single Room, Expedia Vacation
2009 was Kingsland, Home Week, 1/1 Standard, Resale Purchase
2010 was Grand Waikikian, 2/2 Standard, Discounted Promo Stay
2011 was Vilamoura, 1/1, Club Stay

After staying at both the GW and Lagoon Tower, I don't see why anyone would purchase at the GW given the excessive points scale.

I noticed that the bill at check-out included an owner home week tax of about 6.85 per day. Does anyone know when this began?

I hope this is not considered advertising, but this could help save some member a little money. If anyone cares, a cab company called Charlie's Taxi Co. started a flat rate of $29.00 from the Airport to Waikiki or Waikiki to Airport. You just have to call on arrival to the Airport for pick-up, 1-808-233-3333. Standard bags are no charge. Heavy bags ~80 lbs., golf equipment and surf boards would be an extra charge.

Enjoy your summer!

I fully agree. Having stayed in the Lagoon Tower and the Penthouse and a regular 2 bedroom at GW, the Lagoon Tower in my view is the superior accommodation, due to it's on the beach location.

Have they finished the room upgrades? If so, do you have any pictures?

Also, agree about Charlie's Taxi. We were fortunate enough to get Warren as our driver/owner and I used him around town on one occasion besides the trip to and from the airport. Very easy and nice to deal with, and a lot of Aloha. :)

That is a tax that was passed by HI. It is charged to every timeshare user NOT owner. So if you own there you pay, if you trade into there you pay.

It is a TOT tax. Got to love taxation without representation. Passed over 5 or 6 years ago or more, you know how time flies.

The 'Transient Occupancy Tax' was passed effective January 1, 1999.
The formula for the tax is based on mf's, so as mf's go up, so does the tax.

Of course, we also get to pay real estate taxes in our maintenance fees.
