I was able to get a January 9 Last Call for the Summit (126 - U) and we are really looking forward to it even though we don't ski. We have been to Maasanutten about five times before, but never in winter.

The snow tubing looks like fun, but we are 77 and 61 and not looking for any broken bones. Would it be doable for healthy but not super athletic people?

I will be checking the Virginia Winery web site for winter hours for the wineries, and we will maybe do a day trip to Charlottesville. Between that, the Water Park and all that goes on at Massanutten, I think we will have a full week.

This will be the first time that we have gone since we bought our Summit unit earlier this year. I am assuming that we will get the owner's discounts even though we are there on an RCI week. Is this true? Can we have our ID cards made when we get there?

Has anyone done the beer dinner? We have done the Winmakers dinner a few times and were not that impressesd.

Any other ideas for a winter trip for non-skiers?

People Asking If We're Owners Are Usually Trying To Sign Us Up For A Sales Pitch.

I am assuming that we will get the owner's discounts even though we are there on an RCI week.
When we exchange into our own (Florida) timeshare(s) via RCI, & somebody at the resort asks if we're owners, the answer is YES.

If somebody asks, "Are you owners or are you here on exchange?", then the answer is, "We are owners, here this week on exchange."

If the question is, "Are you here on RCI exchange?", the answer is, "Yes, & we also own here."

I suppose the most appropriate answer to any question like that is, "What's it to ya ?"

However that may be, at our (Florida) timeshare(s) there are no special deals for owners or discounts, etc., that exchange guests & renters don't also get.

So it goes.

BTW, we had a great time at Massanutten this past September on RCI Instant Exchange. Even so, come January 2009, we'll be timeshare vacationing in Florida again.

Tubing is fun but you can still break a bone... be careful if it is icy (and there was a lot of that the year we were in Massanutten). There are so many activities that you should be able to keep yourself fully booked without trying too hard.. Have fun - its a great place.

Susan

Summit 126 is located on Whistler Court in the Grenoble Woods Section
End of group on a nice road - with limited views because of the trees.

It sounds as though you are very active so I think you would enjoy the tubing park.

The waterpark buffet restaurant has crab legs on Friday nights..if you like seafood.

You may also have an interest in some of the following:

The Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton is also a big hit with vacationers....40 minute drive from the resort. Staunton has a great downtown area with boutiques and restaurants as well.

If you like basketball, James Madison has an incredible girls team that will probably have games during your stay. Tickets are $8 for adults and it is 20 minutes from the resort.

There is a new winery called the Cross Keys Vineyard that you may want to check out(it is owned by one of the timeshare sales directors). Also, a wine store on Rt. 33W about 10 minutes from the resort that offers free tastings on Fridays from 4:30 to 7:00.

You can get your cards made at the Market in the Woodstone check in area.

Enjoy your stay!

Cindy

If you can go on a waterslide, you can go tubing.

We had a scary experience with tubing many years ago at Massanutten. They let your family tie the tubes together. As a result, it went much faster due to the weight. At the end of the day, the slope got icy and even faster. Our family of four (with two double tubes if I remember right) could not stop at the end of the track and went all the way and hit the fence. It was very scary. Our boys were very young (2 and 5). They enjoyed tubing till that point.

Tubing is really fun. But check out the condition before you try it.

Yes but the landing on a water slide is always soft and çontrolled - you dont go skimming across the water to any extent at the end of the slide. Tubing is quite different wherein you have little control of the tube, and if you hit a patch of ice or are just going too fast you will get bounced around, possibly hit the snowbank at the end (unless there is straw) and break a bone, jam a knee (done that) etc etc.
