Quick question for someone in the know. (Tried searching first but couldn't find this scenario):

If I make a reservation with bonus points, is it possible to cancel it without losing the points? I keep reading that bonus points are non-changeable, but "cancel" and "change" seem to be different things in the club rules.

Thanks in advance. I would call Hilton but their phone agents never seem to have a clue.

Unless they changed the rules since I used them in 2014, I was able to book and un-book my bonus points all the time. Changeable means that if you are adding a day to your club reservation then you will not risk losing your current reservation. With bonus points you have to unbook/rebook and risk losing the reservation during the minute or so that it takes to do this process. The points always returned to my account.

There may be a cancellation fee depending on what you own. West 57th owners do not pay reservation/change/cancellation fees so booking/rebooking was never an issue.

You should call to make sure. The HGVC customer service people I worked with were always very knowledgeable but not sure if they are different because there is a dedicated line for W. 57 owners.

Yes, you can cancel the reservation and the bonus points will return to your account (assuming that you aren't past the expiration date of the bonus points). There will be no fee to cancel but you will lose your initial booking fee (you should see exactly what will happen when you start the cancellation process). You will also pay another fee when you re-book. HGVC does like to charge us fees for everything.

Caution: If you are past the bonus points' expiration date, they will go poof.
Make sure you check that before cancelling.
