can only hope that enough folks were able to evacuate before (and after) the destruction of irma...and there are far less people to try to evacuate for maria :(

Sheesh, and it seemed Barbuda was the worse hit with Irma, now again. No matter the island, this is horrible.

Maria is now listed as a category 5 hurricane. Let's pray it turn right back into the Atlantic Ocean.

For some of those islands, it will be like people emerging from their shelters after WWIII and finding total destruction from which to create something that never existed before.

Maybe it is time that an island will want to join Canada as a territory, province or part of an established province.

There has long been mention of the Turks and Caicos becoming either Canada's Virgin Islands or an 11th province.

That would be interesting. But, there is also talk about Quebec leaving Canada.

Either way, it would be cool and I guess it would make sense for the islands financially.

This way be the time. Not sure if it is a priority at the moment but a way to help out at least one place that has been devastated.

France, UK, Holland, Belgium, US are sending lots of aid to their territories but what happens the independents?

I hope that countries realize that aid sent to the affected areas is much better then the most recent programs where people are given temporary residence in other countries. Best to build the countries back up.

Surely every island will receive lots of help from the UN? I would hope so, as this is really unprecidented destruction. I was saying to my husband yesterday that I wonder if we will see more islands become territories of a larger country after this though. My heart really goes out to the islands right now. I cannot fathom what they are going through and I hope that everyone survives.

We had planned to go to Connecticut and Mass, probably could have arrived, but were concerned about the way home. Too much stress for the short trip. Hope everyone is safe.

Hopefully they do but the the islands that are territories of another country will get help first.

My family will take a trip to one of the islands when it is safe to travel, they are happy to have us and works for us.

Side note: Have stays/flights to Mexico, southern carribbean increased since the hurricanes? I am sure demand has.

This hurricane season is a nail-biter. And now the terrible earthquakes in Mexico. My heart is heavy...and still I keep hoping for deliverance from these trials and tribulations.

Praying a lot today for people in Mexico and in the path of the next hurricane.
