How do you make the phone calls stop?

Shell Vacations keeps calling us! Is there an effective way to get them to stop?

I had a bad experience with Casablanca after having taken a couple of their "free trips". It turned out that the trips were never exactly as advertised and it was more trouble than it was worth. Of course, they kept calling. I told them "I did not have a good experience with your company, as a matter of fact, I sent a letter of complaint and posted it on the internet, so please take my name off of your list." Haven't been called since. It doesn't always work, but it's worth a try for you.

Either don't answer their number, change it or cancel your line.

You can request that they put you on THEIR do not call list. I've done that with companies that I have a business relationship with and did not want to receive on-going sales calls. It works.

If it's a landline, just cancel it, if it's a mobile number ask your carrier to give you a new number. Whenever you give out a number, give out a google voice one and just let it go to voice mail. You'll get an email if someone leaves a voicemail.

Sometimes it's simply the key words "Do Not Call me any more & please take me off your list."

I know I've been guilty of being a bit too polite and never actually said the words, which triggers a removal from their list.

After that, if it doesn't stop there are the other solutions mentioned.

We have a friend who is very polite and has a hard time saying no or hanging up. Her husband placed a post-it note on the wall next to the phone saying "Please put me on your do not call list". She now reads that to them and they end the conversation. It seems to have helped.

They are on the national do not call registry (as are we) but some calls still come through.

I usually don't answer the phone, if I don't know the caller.

However, someone (with a commercial caller ID) called repeatedly recently, so I started picking up the phone and then, without speaking, putting it directly against the TV speaker and then walking away, and they stopped calling.

Say this quickly and immediately. Sometime I've had companies hang-up before I could complete my statement or say "Let me transfer you" and then disconnect the line. That way they wouldn't have to take me off their list.

The above suggestions are great but for future, you can get a free Google Voice phone number and give it out to anybody that you don't really want to provide your real number to.

The Google Voice phone number can be forwarded to your cell or home phone so you can answer it live or not. You can also go back to any number that has called and block it with the with the click of a mouse from your Google email account

I've had one for over 2 years and its very handy. If interested do a search for Google Voice. It allows you to select a local number and best of all it free.

I know this does not address the problem you're inquiring about (persistent, annoying calls) but...It might not be THE actual Shell Vacations calling. A lot of these useless travel clubs piggyback names from reputable, widely-known travel/timeshare companies in order to stop you from hanging up quickly and to sound legitimate.

Case in point. I have been a member of RCI for nearly a decade now and we keep getting these calls from travel clubs. They subtly put the words (or shall I say "letters"?) "RCI" into their name to make it sound like they are affiliated with RCI. In reality, they are just trying to get us to join their travel club and/or take timeshare tours.

Sometimes, they have claimed to be a third party that RCI hires out to contact its members. However, RCI does not do hand out members' information to other parties. Likely, a disgruntled employee of RCI or one on the take is selling/leaking members' information to these useless travel clubs. I suspect this "Shell Vacations" is doing the same - getting your and other members' information from the real Shell Vacations Club and pestering you to join their travel club.

Maybe these impostors feel that, since you own a timeshare or belong to one of these exchange clubs like RCI or Shell Vacations Club, that you would be interested in more travel opportunities.
