from the Island Packet:

"In wake of complaints, Hilton Head to consider beach tent rules

... The trashed tents have become so prolific that Town Council members have received a slew of complaints from island residents, and the grievances have council leaders considering new rules for beach tents for 2016. ..."

I had a feeling this might happen after Myrtle Beach voted in 2014 to restrict their use. We put up a 10X10 or 12X12 canopy during our Hilton Head stays, will hate to see a ban but it's understandable at least during the busiest times.

No New Beach Tent Rules this Year

No new beach tent rules this year. Also, no bans on beach fishing this summer either. There was some political pressure to ban beach fishing after all the shark sightings last summer and the little girl getting bit in October. The lifeguards make fishermen move away from the crowded sections of beach anyway so swimmers don't get hooked and the feeling was there was little chance of sharks being drawn to the beach by fishing.
