HHonors Points at Amazon

Got an email today stating that now you can use HHonors points to shop at Amazon. I'm wondering what the conversion rate is from points to $. I have no intention of signing up, as I'm sure the rate is terrible. But I'm curious, if anyone happens to know.

That does not sound very attractive to me, but we love to travel and i use my HHonors points for hotels.. But i think the Amazon conversion could be good for the occasional traveler that earns some points but not enough to book a big trip..

Whoa. Let's do some math. For example, I have a 7000 point Flamingo for which I pay more than $1000 per year. Those 7000 HGVC points will get me 175K HH points (for a conversion fee). So you're saying that gets me $350 at Amazon??? That's even worse than I expected.

Whoa. Let's do some math. For example, I have a 7000 point Flamingo for which I pay more than $1000 per year. Those 7000 HGVC points will get me 175K HH points (for a conversion fee). So you're saying that gets me $350 at Amazon??? That's even worse than I expected.

Another calculation:

I usually average about 4 HHonors points per dollar spent on my Hilton Surpass Amex card. So $43,750 of spend through that card would yield 175K HH points, or $350 at Amazon. I get much better value using those HHonors points on high-priced hotel rooms. A 2% cash-back card (like Fidelity's) would yield $875 for that same spend.

Yes, that's the math. They must think we are stupid.

No, these really are not the maths. This is really not targeted at the HGVC owner exchanging HGVC points for HH points. We are a minuscule part of the equation, and not what the maths are based upon. Not opining as to whether or not it's a good deal, but the HGVC thing is not part of their equation.

Skipping the "conversion" HGVC to HH here.

HHonors points I value at $0.005/point. (The average is anywhere between $0.004 and $0.006/point depending on which hilton hotel you want to redeem for).

5 Hhonors = $0.01 so that's $0.002/point?

Pew pew.

Better off redeeming for hilton hotels.
