As I've gotten older, the importance of a good mattress, cool cotton sheets, and a good pillow have risen significantly. A few months ago, I began doing some internet research to purchase a new mattress and can enthusiastically recommend Sleepopolis.
Sleepopolis is pretty interesting. The website is run by a young man named Derek Hales and it's remarkable for a few reasons:
Sleepopolis is pretty interesting. The website is run by a young man named Derek Hales and it's remarkable for a few reasons:
- It's incredibly comprehensive, with detailed written and video reviews of some forth different mattresses from about 15 different manufacturers. It should be noted that most, if not all, of the mattresses reviewed are from online, direct to consumer manufacturers. The big retail brands like Sealy, Serta, and Sleep Number, for example, are not here. Tempur Pedic and IKEA are mentioned and reviewed, however.
- There are also comprehensive reviews on pillows, sheets, mattress toppers, and even bed frames. Interestingly, the ubiquitous "My Pillow" gets a very low rating. My DW would emphatically agree, as she bought one several months ago and within a few days had muscle strain/stiff neck from the pillow.
- We recently purchased a Helix mattress based on the Sleepopolis recommendation. We love it! We were drawn by the fact that the bed has two different mattresses--one for my DW and one for me--sewn into the same king-sized liner.
- Derek actually answers your questions via email--and with a very fast and courteous response.
- Through his site, discounts are available to buyers. I think he gets some kind of percentage if a purchase is made by clicking through his site.
- Derek is completely unbiased. Recently, for example, the manufacturers of the Casper Bed threatened to sue Sleepopolis because they were not happy with his review.
