We have a reservation at Frenchman's Cove for President's Week 2018.

Does anyone care to speculate what Frenchman's Cove may be like, post-Hurricane Irma?

Granted, Hurricane Maria may track towards STT as well.

Baring any more damage from future storms, I would expect the property is open. You probably won't have use of facilities or restaurants at the Reef as it may still possibly be closed. The island will still be going through a lot of rebuilding work and it won't be like prior visits.

It seems the facilities at the Cove can withstand a beating. The issue is the rest of the Island. The folks that drive the taxi's, cook the food, check you in, and the zillion other jobs needed to support a tourist industry don't have water, power or a roof over their heads. I was confident that all would be somewhat back to normal by January but with Maria bearing down on them I'm not so hopeful anymore. If the Feds come through with some big time assistance February might still be possible even with Maria. Without that aid I think it will be several months before normal reappears.

Have you cancelled Jim? Our 5 weeks are all with points so we have a little time. I know they need tourism for their jobs but without the infrastructure of the island, I can’t imagine being there.

No, and I don't plan to cancel. If the airport is open and the resort is open then we are going. I'm confident that will be the case by February. If one or both are closed we'll test out the Travelex insurance plan. I do not expect many restaurants to be operational but as long as the grocery stores are stocked and open then we'll be fine. I'll miss some good dining out but the beaches will still be there.

It will be awhile for all of the infrastructure to get back up but they've got three full months to get the water and power working. I haven't seen too much about the additional damage from Maria yet so all my plans could change rapidly.
