We may not be able to go on our vacation in November and may have to rent these weeks.

Since it is our first time trying to rent our weeks, we would appreciate any advice on how to handle it, especially the payment from the buyer.

Thanks.

If you can cancel the reservation and get the week or points back and use them later, that's what I'd recommend. November, even Thanksgiving is a slow time for rentals. If you must rent it, be prepared to price it low. See the sticky at the top of this forum for details about how to rent your timeshare.

Well, my best tip, as a renter is to not wait until the last week, and start getting the word out as early as possible. You don't mention where you own although I understand you were just wanting some advice. I have rented multiple times with only one time going through an agency. Obviously I have the same concerns that you have except that my concern is showing up somewhere only to be turned away. I would prefer to be able to use a credit card or even an escrow company, but if I can confirm that you are a regular then I don't mind sending you a check along with whatever deposits are appropriate. I also use vbro, so you might get some advice from their site.

The fees at VRBO are too high for a single rental. They are geared toward year-round vacation rentals.

Depends on what you are renting and if itis high demand location or not and good season or not.

Redweek and my resortnetwork charges $25 or so per ad. I had good luck renting out some Paris weeks on redweek and a Carmel week which I could not use due ot travel timing changed or conflict with work.

If what you want to rent is a lower value week, you can try the last minute rental board here or craigslist which are free. But with Craigslist be careful of scams.

But the rental we are discussing is a last minute, off-season rental, so I don't think paying $349 to join VRBO would be a good value for the OP. I'd use a Redweek Ad for $25.
