Last week while at WKORV my husband and I decided that we would buy annual OF resale. Now that we are home and reality has sunk back in, my husband wants to go back to oceanview.

When you call 12 mo out at 5am ,what are your chances of getting a good OV room on a higher floor? Is it close to 95% or 50%??
Thanks

If you call at the butt-crack of dawn at 12 mos. out I think you have a 95% chance of getting a good ocean view on a high floor. We've been very happy with our views so far. However....I would love to own ocean front at the WKORV. I even made an offer on a resale, but the seller wasn't budging below $55K. I also contacted Starwood about using our OV unit to upgrade to OF, but they didn't have any OF availability.

Just curious, by "go back to ocean view," do you mean to buy ocean view instead?

OOps..I just read the rest of your post, yes, to buy OV instead.
Just watch now, that I'm on board with my husband about buying OV instead of OF, he'll want to switch again!

I haven't had a view I didn't love either...5th floor usually (calling at crack of dawn, yawn  ) but lovely. Wish I were there now!

I would LOVE OF! It was $20K more when we bought....and OV was $11K more than IV....so we took the middle road. To my DH, it was worth $11K to get OV but not $20K to get OF. I'm happy, no complaints, but I want another week!

I've always gotten a good view too, usually 5th or 6th floor, the last OV unit closest to the ocean.

Once I got an OF studio and I found the sun beat really hard on it in the afternoon (in early July). On the other hand, it did have a nice lanai that you don't get in the OV units.

Whatever you get, you'll be in Maui and can't go wrong.

OV

Our friends that are OV owners at WKORV booked exactly 12 months out right when they opened. They got 6th floor, OV, building 2, overlooking the pool. IMHO that's the best OV room available. The workout room is just in the basement, you're as close to the Ocean you can get for a 2 br OV owner. This was a Saturday check-in. I believe somewhere that someone posted that 60%(?) of the rooms are Saturday check-in, so that helps as well.

Just in case this may be a better fit for you and family - be aware that you can also buy a 1bd OV unit at WKORV for ~$17-18K that will give you 81K SOs. These are not available at WKORV-N - there are ~54 of these units (if I recall correctly) deeded at WKORV.
