I recently bought a platinum season 2bd-2bt lockoff unit at Grande Vista on ebay. Closing will take 2-3 months. I've paid for 2017 maintenance fee and getting the usage for 2017. Will it be very late to book Christmas week for this year at home resort ? What is the best course of action once the closing is complete ?

See if you can get the seller to book the week you want now and then have the booking transferred to you at closing. I have never done this but apparently it is done all the time with good results.

Do you know if the proper thing to do is specify usage begins in 2018 or 2017? The default for 2017 is the reservation is canceled so I wasn't sure if you specify '18 and then after the fact you get it transferred or '17 but it has to be very clear to transfer instead of cancel.

Thank you. I'll contact the ebay seller and try to see if he can help reserve for week 51. Though he had mentioned 'reserving during closing can't be promised'.

Week 51 is very high demand so I wouldn't count on it. If it's available right now then the seller needs to book it now. You already paid the 2017 fee so the least they can do is log in and check. The only issue is if you bought from a mass reseller. They generally do not like going between the buyer and seller for reservations. Some of them will try and avoid it like the plague.

A few of them don't even have contact with the real seller. They are a 3rd party handling the unload from a timeshare trade-in. They get pre-signed paperwork and/or have power of attorney. Some of those types of eBay sellers will refuse to contact the person who traded in the timeshare.

This would be the main problem with trying to get the seller to make a reservation. If it was an ebay purchase, chances are the prior owner isn't even involved and already owns a new timeshare and is just waiting and hoping the old one gets out of their name. That is even if they are bothering to check or notice.

As you said, the mass sellers don't want to get involved and certainly don't want to go back to the seller for anything and potentially tip off that they easily found a buyer IF the seller only makes a reservation. Many listings I see on ebay indicate that they won't make reservations for the buyer, no exceptions.

We just closed our 1st TS purchase of 2bd lockoff, platinum week MGV from Sean. Very good experience ! Ms Esther Padilla with the closing company was very good and was on top of things.

I have a question on reservation, I've paid and have 2017 usage, I've booked the last week of August because most of the platinum weeks were gone. How can I look at availability and change my booking. I see MGV is having some construction work starting Aug 20th and our checkin is on Aug 26th. If changing reservations is discussed in some thread, pls point me there.

You're not able to do an online availability search with a Week that's already been booked, and I believe you have to call in to cancel existing reservations. When you call in Owner Services can do a search without cancelling first, though, and then if there is availability they'll be able to immediately cancel and rebook your Week.
