My colleague at work need 2 weeks in Big Island HI. I am planning to book it for him but was wondering whether there is any issue with using guest certificate at a non home resort. I am not into renting my weeks / units but this is a genuine case of helping a friend. Greatly appreciate any insight.

i have purchased guest certificates for my son to stay at Elara, we own in Hawaii and he had no issues at check-in. To be honest i am not sure Hilton puts much effort in sorting out a rental vs. a gift of vacation...

Thank you, I spoke to an agent as my friend wants to stay there from oct 1 -31. The just had a baby and want to spend the bonding time off in HI. The agent said it is OK to have guest certificate but can book only max 30 days per booking. I have to split the booking between Bay Club, Kohala and Kingsland. I have to borrow all my 2018 points for this booking (21000).

"2 weeks" - 30 days... Did this friend save your life or something? You're being quite generous.

:) . I have 2 weeks in Maui already booked for 2017 Dec and some surplus points with no immediate use :)

That is very generous and its great that your able and willing to assist like that. I am still working on acquiring enough points to be able to do similar.

I have put my mom's name for even RCI reservation at additional fee yet no issue at all. I think as long as you pay the guest certificate fee, it is okay.

II just wants the exchange fee so unless you make it obvious that you're renting the unit they don't care.
