Denise sums it up really well and it seems be the most accurate account of OP's experience. JMO, renting timeshares require the basic knowledge of both sides and may save a lot of hassels and misunderstanding through communications. I'm in no way to say it's fault of OP to have a bad experience, but I believe this whole situation is avoidable if OP has some experience of dealing with rental agent, and rental agent communicates a bit more professionally in a timely manner.

I agree with this. Live and learn. this was all certainly new to me. Thanks for your input

All I could think of reading this thread is...I wonder if the owner the op was talking about was me... I do use a service to help me rent my points.I dont know if Ruth Hunt works for them or not

[crude joke deleted]

Sorry, I thought it was funny then and I guess I still do

In any case if the op wants to find somebody to rent from, she should just post something on the rentals wanted forum....I bet she gets several private messages offering services

Thats my future plan. using this site. You guys/gals have been helpful. thank you. never saw the crude joke. glad you enjoyed it though. and it was NOT you.

I am responding to this post to say that I have rented to and from Ruth Hunt for many years and all transactions have gone smoothly.

I do not know her personally or how or where she gets her inventory but I think it is important when using someone's name in public that there is a distinction between someone coming off as "rude" versus a "scam", or someone who is trying to harm another person.

I did find this thread a bit hard to follow so I just wanted to post my personal experiences.

JMHO,

Cindy

One of the more intelligent posts in this thread. +1

Sounds to me, in this overly-moderated thread, that the rental agent had to wait for the 10month Wyndham window to be able to book, that coupled with maybe the rental was too small an amount of points to make it really worthwhile. The rental agent should have been more responsive and booked when the 10month window opened. Who knows what was going on in their life. I've dealt with this rental agent ever since they first started and they would never scam anyone. Sorry that you didn't get what you needed from them, but as BB says, you probably should have moved on two days after you were in the 10month window and you weren't getting responses.

I know that now. BUT as I stated I was was trying to be fair to my friend who helped me and use his points for teh rental. But I waited to long for sure.

most people seem to be saying two days ia a reasonable time frame to wait. NOT 6 weeks. got it.

The other lesson from this thread is that if you are a rental agent and one of your clients asks you for a small favor for a friend, be careful how you treat this person because you may end up named negatively in a 50+ post thread on TUG. In any event, when you do business online, any client can really hurt your business with a negative post.

I guess if you don't want to service the client because it is too small, just say thanks, but you are really busy and this type of rental is not in your business. Then, point to this thread saying that you do not want for your clients friend to experience something like what happened in this thread.

...Cindy

I'm still waiting to hear what the "disastrous results" were.

No money was lost, did not show up and be denied occupancy, credit card was not charged...Yes, this is just whining.

As Cindy has pointed out, Ruth Hunt has given her smooth transactions for many years so until we hear the other side of the story I'm not going to let one whinner lead me away from this agent.

"Nothing available for your offer" when they offer $200 for a Manhattan Club week
or "Nothing remaining for your request" when it's not something in your repertoire.

Sure, you can always use the old line that you don't have anything available.

However, in this case, the booking window hadn't even been opened yet. The better option would tell the OP to contact them again at the 10 month mark and they would check avail at that time.

This is not true in my case. I set it up with Ruth to make it at the 10 month mark. then It was another 6 weeks before I broke the tie.

I don't know diddly about renting, subletting, etc but I know about basic human interaction and customer service on both sides of the counter.

Plus, I'm only basing my opinion on what's been said so far, and with the assumption it's true, knowing it might not be.

Ok, enough with the disclaimers.

NYDVC, the way you were treated by this person is appalling and I think you had every right and reason to come here posting about it.

I thank you for giving all a heads-up. You were treated like cr@p by this person and I admire your temperament.

Most of the responses here left me scratching my head ....but that is neither here nor there....I think it's just the nature of this site and I'm still getting used to it.

From the beginning you said you weren't sure how to go about this, and you were more than gracious with your responses. For me, you are a great example of patience! :)

obviously you adapt to the exact situation [?]

This is the point at which Ruth made the mistake. She should have told you to contact her again at the 10 month mark. She put undue pressure on herself to an action plan that didn't provide any economic incentive to pursue. She didn't live up to her commitment which has damaged her reputation now.

Do y'all feel this has been blown way out of proportion? If either side knows a bit better and this whole thing should not be 60+ posts thread on popular internet BBS. Continouesly microscoping actions with 20/20 hingishgt is unfair to either side.

OP was first-time timeshare renter and lacked mutual understanding and knowledge to quickly manuver through the rental process.

Rental agent should not take a task that she could not follow through because of amount and profit. This would be totally non-issue if she communicated clear and polite in a timely manner. Everyone is busy with their life and we are only humans. Yet, it is helpful to up a notch in business communication.

JMHO, OP, you may ask mod to close the thread. You already got your answers and things off your chest. Time to move on....Live and learn...

JMHO,

I came to this party a little late but have also rented from Ruth Hunt. She got my husband and I an upgrade into the presidential suite at Skyline Towers in AC for our anniversary a few years ago. It was beyond my expectations and my husband was absolutely surprised.

Ron,
Best wishes for a speedy recovery with your new knee.

  • We recently engaged the services of a Spanish/English translator to rent Holy Week/Easter/Spring Break weeks in Mexico to Mexican Nationals.
  • The ONLY reason we made those reservations was suddenly in 2012 we encountered repeated brick walls when we called to use the those same points for cruises as described.
    • Since increasing the number of people in the communication chain (timeshare/points owner->agent who advertises->people who respond->then sublet to other people wanted extremely high demand weeks and language barriers increases risks etc, do others besides Ron employ "Agents/Agencies" to rent their weeks/points?
We have no desire to rent timeshare weeks to other people unless it is the only reasonable way to deal with our excess inventory.
