I have read awful stories here at the forum about attending presentation at Vidanta RM. On my visit at GM RM last week, I have experienced one. I have attended TS presentation countless times but the presentation at RM was very aggressive one. The most annoying thing was when I said no, they sent another guy to persuade you again that the product was unbelievably attractive that I should buy. Then I said no again, another guy showed up saying the same thing. This was not my first time attending Vidanta presentation.

Before the presentation, four or us, including the presenter (Ms. E), had a breakfast. At this time, I'm sure the presenter had all the opportunity to gather information about our life. At Vidanta RM, the presentation for non-owner is at the two-story building near the Mayan Palace pool. Since we're already owner, we went to a new building dedicated for owners update, near the Beach Club. The building was just opened a few weeks ago because I could smell the new furniture and paint. Next to this building was the showroom for GL Villa and Junior Villa, GB and The Bliss. After the showroom tour, the owners update began.

Ms. E spoke so fast that I could not understand the product she was offering. But I remembered correctly that the price was 300,000 - Yes in US dollars not MX peso. I said no politely. The next offer was a new contact (not an upgrade) of GL 3 BR Spa for 98,000. When I said we're not interested, the price was lowered to 68,000. Then she offered GL 1BR loft (the two-story loft where the bedroom is upstairs). I couldn't recall the price because we weren't interested. Finally, Ms. E offered a product that can be added to our addendum for 21,000 (with 5,000 down payment and the balance 16,000 can be financed). The product is related to the new theme park. My spouse was staring at the product and maybe Ms. E saw spark of $$$ signs in his eyes. But I politely again said no. Then some else came explaining this product worth 100,000, and was offered to us for merely 21,000. Thank you so much but I said no. The problem was my spouse still showed some interests even I said no several times. Then a manager approached our table and crossed out the 5K down payment. Yes, the price is now 16,000. We never asked but they lowered the price! Give us a few minutes. I told my spouse that this product wasn't great and it was just a feature in the addendum. It wasn't an ownership upgrade. It was just an overpriced product portrayed as an upgrade. Together we said no (maybe once or twice).

Ms. E walked us out to different building to get our gift. But wait, this wasn't a gift. This was another presentation!

So this lady, at the last presentation, told us because we're special, we could get it for 6,000 in exchange of withdrawing a feature from our contract for 3 years. Wow, so 21K price is now 6K. We knew this would be the last offer so we counter offered. Unfortunately, our counter offer of 4K was denied. But we didn't need it anyway – so we left.

Thanks for the update and sharing your experiences. I am curious, which feature were they interested in withdrawing from your contract for 3 years? (I'm also in the V system.)

My husband and I have been timeshare owners at Vidanta for 15 years.

Every year, they try to upgrade us. We were manipulated into upgrades three times, cancelled twice and now in an epic battle over the most recent upgrade. In this most recent upgrade, they changed the wording on two of our addendum without telling us and reducing benefits.

Also, our experience with Vida Lifestyle and "Vida Dollars" has been a total joke. Absolutely worthless. I'm open to suggestions on how to make those dollars actually go toward something useful.

My recommendation at this point is for anyone who wants to visit a Vidanta property (which I would highly recommend because they are fabulous) to buy a week from E-Bay or another timeshare rental group. We will NEVER go for an "owners update" ever again since they always turn into nasty and manipulative 8-10 hour torture sessions. Enjoy your vacations and avoid sales at all costs.

Truer words have not been spoken..for most. For others, the warning is there.

Sorry, I don't remember.

Breakfast started at 8.30 am. Maybe it ended between 3 and 4 pm.

********

FYI - for any readers who are unfamiliar with Vidanta presentations

THE BREAKFAST IS REALLY GOOD - bring a hundred peso note with you to tip the server .
It is the classy thing to do and prevents the salesperson from leaving the tip . Not doing so identifies you as a newbie- and give them power.

The "90 minutes" starts when you reach the TS sales room.
IMO - breakfast at 8:30 + the tour - should get you to the sales room about 11 am .

In Nuevo Vallarta - they have different sales forces for owners , experienced exchangers ( ie trade in prospects ) and newbies . The stretched golf cart drops folks at different " doors " . In 2016 - as owners- we did not have all the exit package etc. salespeople . Our salesperson was an 8 year vet who only did owner upgrade presentations . Nice guy , knowledgeable and hard sell pressure in the sales room .

Dear LZango ,
Thanks for the owner to owner heads up .
RE : addendum wording in any upgrades .

We have never upgraded - in part because my " paranoia " of that happening . We have a 25 year renewal contract (5 x MF renewal ) with the MF on use only addedum .
I am sure they would like back our 50% off gold addendum - that just says golf / not course specific . I asked Member Services in NV and they said " the original NV course / not the new one .
I have never golfed at Vidanta so it is not really worth an argument - BUT ....

If you wish to share - what benefits & addendums .

That is about right. We always have guests that enjoy the breakfasts and the small talk with the salespeople; they are actually quite interesting before they shift gears to sales-speak. Generally after breakfast, I will spend a couple of hours listening, understanding, and possibly negotiating. I actually find it more fun than lying on the beach for a couple of hours - but I realize I am in the minority.

I always go with an open mind as to possibilities of change. They want some cash and I want more vacation goodies. I am trying to work them as much as they are trying to work me; does no one else see that as a challenge and fun?

They probably perceive me as obnoxious as I see them.

I'm in your camp, Mike. My problem is that I think I've now been identified as the girl who sent in an offer they had to really sell up the chain and then dared to still decline to purchase. I'm sorry to probably have to fallow for a few years as I really enjoy it and I will miss free breakfast and room credit incentives. Boo hoo :p

It is interesting that the presenter told us not to give tips since she would tip the waiter.

I agree with Mike that we wanted the gift after presentation - Vida Privilege "blue" card.

It is a promotion card for:
- 30% discount on spa and massage on Friday, Saturday, Sunday
- Buy specific meals and get free drinks at Chiringuito and Blue Fish
- Free 1 bottle of wine at Azur after 9 pm (we got 3 bottles)
- Buy 1 get 2 breakfast after 10.30 am
- Discount on tours

Who ever heard of a not tipping in a restaurant in Mexico . Service employees , including those at Vidanta , get a very significant part of their income via tips .

IMO - this is a "game " by the TS sales person .
It is designed to make you feel an "obligation " to them

I would bring a range of bills - let the sales person give "their" tip - and make sure I tipped 50 Pesos more ( visibly -so that the salesperson knows it )
Then when you say no to ALL the offers .... the TS salesperson cannot play the " you should be able to afford this offer " - game

*****
IMO
As Mike said - I am trying to work them as much as they are trying to work me

I never had a presentation where I was told to not leave a tip. When I tipped, the presenter usually thanked me for the waitstaff.
Question Tom: How does over tipping the presenter give you ammo when the presenter says you can afford their offer. Seems to me you would be able to afford it as a big tipper(?).

We have done 4 presentations since buying in 2006 - and have never udgraded .
2010 - Mazatlan and the rest in Nuevo .
Our last was 2016 - with a experienced owner upgrade specialist .

The first 1 or 2 - the presenter left the tip . Since then I have also tipped .
I figure - what is $ 10 to me on vacation - but to the server it is a nice bonus .

IMO- the salesperson pianoetudes had was playing a control game - and if I sensed that-
I want to be in charge not them .

******

My sense from TUG postings is that TS sales at Nuevo Vallarta is the most " professional " of
their locations .
ie . - IMO - more of the "crazy stories " are from other Vidanta Sales locations .

My 2 Mayan Palace contracts were both bought on eBay. I have also been on numerous "presentations/owner updates", always regretting it afterwards, but pressured by reps at

checkins. I know that they get something for signing people up, and feel for them. I have never upgraded and probably (close to 100%) never will. The calculations they use always

use the 5X MF to renew for 25 years, which will never happen.

We go to Mexico once or twice yearly (25 times since 2002) and use RCI or II to stay at resorts that are upgrades compared to MP (GM, GB, GL and Pueblo Bonitos and in US for

Marriotts and Grand Hiltons). It costs to do that, but the cost is still way less than upgrading.

I golf, but not on vacation and family/friends are reluctant (afraid) to go to Mexico. I can see why Mike(nk) would upgrade, because he golfs in Mexico and has family/friends who

want to go. But for me, sitting under a palapa on the beach is preferable to sitting for a presentation.

Has anyone heard what the cost is for the Grand Luxxe one bedroom 2 level loft on the penthouse level of Tower 5 in Nuevo Vallarta?

Thank you for the details of your experience. I was not aware they had one bedroom 2-level lofts in Riviera Maya. Do they exist now or were they offering to sell you one in Nuevo Vallarta? I might be interested in one in Nuevo Vallarta but I am trying to research what the final price is. It sounds like you do not remember the price they offered it to you at in Riviera Maya. But do you remember if it was for the 1 bedroom 2-level loft in RM specifically?

The 1-bedroom 2-level loft are already built in Building 5 NV. RM does not have the units.
