Adding Marriott instead of another vistana? Opinions.

Hi all,
Strange I thought I posted something but I don't see it, anyhow.

Would like some opinions on owners of Marriott or maybe even other ts's.
I posted previously that we were looking at adding another wkv (148k SO) to our ownership. But sitting here thinking about it, it would be neat to maybe add another company altogether so we have more variety.

Thoughts and opinions please, good or bad. My only concern is that, we come to expect a level of quality from Sheraton/westin properties. The last time we used a Marriott it was a little outdated.

Thanks
Tom

I agree it would add variety. The only comment I would have relates to cost. Adding extra mandatory deeds saves money on SVN fees, whereas adding a Marriott week will probably mean you need an independent II account, or a MVC points account if you buy points.

What MVC locations are you thinking of using?

I own Marriott, WKORV-North, SVV, HGVC and DVC for variety of locations, however have found we return to the same ones year after year. I guess it depends on where you want to go. Once I put a spreadsheet together of all the locations of different big name timeshares and noticed many of them overlap. The quality of marriott's is very good and comparable to Westin some maybe lower but most on par with Westin.

Tom, there is something similar in the Marriott forum, I think that is what you are referring to.

Best,

We own 2 weeks at Hyatt and is we were to add would do Vistanna. Many of the Marriotts we have stayed at seemed more crowded
and less personal but we haven't maybe sampled enough and that's just one opinion. We have been extremely impressed with Vistanna
and will most likely jump on board at some point.

Thanks all, I'm going to stick with vistana and if I need to trade I'll just use II.

We own both Hyatt and Westin. We have gotten some very nice Marriotts via II using our Hyatt. I would say they are all comparable in quality, just a little different in decor.

I think the driving question should be "Where do I want to vacation?" and go from there.

VSE properties are very, very nice, but they have a limited number of locations.

Instead of buying into another network, consider renting directly from an owner via Tug classifieds or Redweek, or booking a Westin week and direct exchanging it for the location of your choice. I've done this quite a few times to travel to Marriott Grande Ocean (Hilton Head), Hilton Hawaiian Village (Oahu), and back into Westin Ka'anapali. Renting and direct exchanging can be a great way to expand your horizons outside of the VSE network...and no contract required!

Lisa,
I'm probably going to add another week of vistana, than use that to trade into II.

Just FTR, the best II exchanges are done by depositing your resort as early as possible (18-24 months in advance) and entering an OnGoing Search for resorts that intrigue you. If one of the resorts you've included in your OGS becomes available, OnGoing Searchers get filled first, with owners in the same network getting first priority. IOW, Marriott owners get priority for Marriott exchanges, etc.

IME, II works best for people who plan and deposit very early (e.g. years in advance), people who are committed to searching daily for inventory that pops up, and/or for people who can travel off season. If that's not you, you might reconsider. My experience relying on Instant Searches yielded very little of value. And from what I've read, the exchanges are tightening up significantly.
