In signing in to the forums today to respond to a TUG post, I happened to notice that today's date marks exactly 10 years participating in this site.
The observation made me wonder how I did not even know about TUG for the decade plus before that while being involved with timeshares.

I've learned a whole lot here (and frequently about topics entirely outside the subject of timeshares) for which I am very grateful. Thank you.
I hope that I have reciprocated in some small way by sharing some of what I have leaned in several decades of timeshare use and ownership.

If I was a millennial, I'd probably be expecting a trophy now --- but I'm just plain too old to qualify. :D

I've enjoyed ready your posts, too. July 4th will be my 10th anniversary on TUG.
It seems I have more posts, but I think that means, the quality of mine is diluted.

You seem to adhere better to the Mr. Ed principle: "Only speak when you have something to say."

Theo, I've only been here a few years but love this board so much. I've learned about Timeshares and everthing in between, valuable information from folks that I trust and admire... Congrats on your anniversary and decade of being a TUG member...

Congrats on reaching such a milestone! I think mine was last year, but I read Tug for awhile before registering. Tug has proven to be a major player in my "enjoyment of life" these last 10+ years. One of the things I enjoy most is the friendliness (however forced it sometimes is) to keep people on a civil level. I read other forums where that is definitely not the case. And who knew - I learned more than I ever wanted about boiled pizza! :D

BTW, Theo is the most "liked" Tugger. Imagine that! ;)

Newcomer. Your post made me check my profile, and it said my 10th was last month. 'Magine that! I had actually joined TUG (and paid) back in the Bill Rogers Prodigy Service days, but the membership lapsed from neglect. I didn't own a timeshare back then, but wanted to research them. Then when I got serious, I came back to the 'new, improved' TUG.

Theo, I have also enjoyed your posts, and congratulations on 10 strong years with TUG (and hoping for many more!). I'm also a few months away and wouldn't have thought about it without your thread. Thank you!

Best,

Greg

So have I. Unfortunately I found TUG well after making a developer purchase. :(

And so have we ALL learned a lot "after the fact".

But why are you agonizing over, and apologizing for, making a developer purchase? Given all the facts, as it turns out, those of us who made a developer purchase did far better than those who today purchase Destination Points, imho. We have deeds, we can enroll our weeks and get into the points system for a song, and then we can rent DC points if we need them (no outrageous upfront costs and no even more outrageous maintenance fees). Most of my weeks rent out for a price of 2-2.5 times the maintenance fee. And my weeks still have decent inherent value because I purchased good resort weeks in good seasons, but what can a points owner say about the future of the value of his points should he need to get rid of them?

We legacy owners still have several options for usage with our weeks, and all are good. Our entry price was less than today's prices for points, and our maintenance fees are similar if not less. One of my weeks alone generates 5025 points....to own that many points would have cost $60,000+, with a mf of $2500+ annually, and I never spent close to HALF of that. Am I ashamed? heck, no. Today's purchasers of points looks far worse compared to what we did. I'll bet "new Marriott owners" (of points) only WISH they owned enrolled legacy weeks.....so we're in a very good place.

Compared to resale week owners (I'm one myself now, too), we indeed spent too much, as you rightly point out, but compared to points purchasers, we're ahead. And without that initial developer purchase, we could have never enrolled (aside from new bundled/point purchases, etc), so be happy.

think a number of folks will be listed as 10 year vets because if im not mistaken, we completely upgraded the forums in 2005/2006/2007 and everyone had to rereigster from the old version of the forum software (ubb).

quite a milestone for sure! so many years and so many owners helped and information shared...its truly quite impressive!

Yes, the bbs went from UBB to vBulletin software in 2005, June, I think, and everyone had to register as a new bbs user at that point, since our old data could not be transferred. So lots of the old timers around here will be coming up on their apparent 12th anniversary in a few months. The few you see with earlier join dates were staff members at that time who registered on vBulletin while we were setting it up and before we went public with it.

Fortunately, when we went from vBulletin to XenForo software last November, we could transfer all the old data to the new board.

Congrats, Theo! You certainly have helped a lot of folks, including a lot of newbies showing up here asking for advice.

My join date shows June '05, but I actually joined three years prior in '02, so now am beginning to feel like an old fart (relatively).
Seems like one of my first posts was answered by a few of the old-timers I've not seen post here for awhile.

Congratulations, Theo. I love reading your posts too and from so many other TUGgers here. Many are old-timers! :)

I also date back from the Bill Rogers Prodigy Service days and when Fern was around. It was fun at that time too.
