Q: What is your opinion of the

HP 17" HD Touch Laptop with Windows 10 Home
1.6GHz quad-core Intel Pentium N3710 processor
4GB RAM, 2TB HDD & Full size Backlit Keyboard

Q: How do I adjust the colors and screen size

Q: Netflix Movies

When you download a movie or tv series from
Netflix to a computer hard drive - Is there a
way to tranfer the movie to a SD card or Lexar
instead of just downloading to Netflix downloads

On average, how much space does a movie need.
Is there a way to save Netflix movies to my smart
phone SD card.

APPs

When searching the app store
I did not see a Youtube app

Is there a special YouTube
app for Windows 10. Thanks

ive never heard of an "app" for windows....youtube is a website that you would browse to on any PC.

apps are usually reserved for mobile operating systems (ie ipone/android)

I don't think you can load a Netflix movie to a hard drive or card. Download only. You CAN rent movies from Amazon. I think they 'live' on your computer for up to a month, then when you watch it you can see it all you want for 48 hours then it automatically disappears. You can also buy them to keep. Then it will be stored permanently on the Amazon cloud. Those you own and all content bought from Amazon can be viewed/read on any device.

DW has a 17" laptop with a built-in blu-ray drive (special order).
She also has a stand-alone 9" DVD player.
When we go someplace, she totes one of these and a stack of DVD's.

Windows Apps - Microsoft Store

Download Windows apps for your Windows computer or tablet. Browse thousands of free and paid apps by category, read user reviews, and compare ratings.

Here are a few Apps that come standard with Windows 10
The Mail and Calendar apps help you stay up to date on your email, manage your schedule and stay in touch.

There is a person that made a youtube video about how to make any app from a website. I am going to try it and see if it will make a youtube app.

I would also like to try the free email app for Yahoo mail.

Don't know why you feel you have to try to make a "You Tube App". All you have to do is open a Browser and go to www.youtube.com.

I think Marty perhaps is following what Microsoft has tagged the shortcut 'app' that was borrowed from the mobile developers to denote a 'small' program meant to do a specific 'application'. But yes, www.YouTube.com is simply a URL link to open with any browser. In this case, the browser is the 'app'.

My first thought was why does this device come with such a miserly amount of RAM? 4GB? Miss Marty - do you already own this laptop or are you considering purchasing it?

I found the absolute best bang for your buck in any laptop is an SSD....while ram is certainly important...even an ancient machine feels brand new with an SSD as that was always a much larger bottleneck than ram in most home applications.

I was thinking about upgrading to a larger 17" touch screen, with
intel processor, backlit (black) keyboard for $599, but with only
4GB RAM I guess I need to find one with more RAM (8GB).

Windows 10 Home has Microsoft Edge Web Browser
but if you prefer google chrome you can download it.

How to.. Using - google chrome - type in youtube - once it is open - then click the three little dots on the right size of the page, select more tools and click on add to desktop. A small box will pop up. Put a check in Open in windows and click add.

This will place the familiar red youtube icon on your main screen. Just tap
on it and it goes directly to youtube. No need to open your browser.

you can always upgrade to more ram, most modern laptops even have a simple and easy to remove panel on the back just to swap out ram/hard drives.

if you are just going to use the laptop to watch movies and surf the web...i doubt its a big concern if the laptop has everything else you want and at the price you want it.

another option is to find a store or person that sells refurbished units...plenty of them around that will take an older generation laptop and swap out the hard drive, put more ram in it, reload the OS and sell it significantly less than the entry level models at best buy etc.

Miss Marty you need more than 1.6GHz.

Keep in mind, I only married a computer guy, but he won't even let me consider purchasing a computer that has less than 2.5 GHz

Watch out at the screen resolution too. Often cheap 17" have the weird 1600x900 resolution in place of the full HD 1920x1080 resolution.

We take a Fujitsu Lifebook A series laptop -- 17 inch because DW edits photos -- and she watches videos on it nightly. It has a DVD drive but most of what we watch comes by WiFi from YouTube or Netflix.

You can also Chromecast many things to your local TV. Of course we have a wireless mouse, and also a Bluetooth keyboard, but don't always use that.

Is there an ancestry dot com app for Windows 10
The only one I see in the windows store is for Win8
Ancestry app for Android (cell phone) works great...

How to make a screen saver for Windows 10

Right-click on your Windows 10 desktop, and
select Personalize to open Personalization settings.

Next click on Lock screen in the left pane.
Scroll down the Lock Screen settings and click on Screen Saver Setting.
Select from the drop down box. Select Time - Click Apply then OK

Just go to the Ancestry website and drag it's address to your desktop to create a link.
Save the website you want to use as a bookmark or link, and there's your "app"

I find the concept of apps for Win10 to be rather odd and ill-suited.
A full-fledged OS is better suited for full-fledged programs, including browsers.

I have the HP 17 inch laptop with Windows 10. Mine came with 16 GB of Ram 1 TB of hard drive and Intel I7 processor. I opted to forgo the touch screen. I would not buy the 4GB ram if you haven't already. Most of todays software needs more ram to operate efficiently. I also have an very old HP 17 Inch Laptop, 4GB Ram 500 GB hard drive. Also no touch screen. (Did I say Old) and a 15 inch HP travel laptop with 4 GB Ram and 500 GB Hard Drive. Both are using the Windows 10 upgrade. I am planning to up grade it to one with much more Ram and Hard drive memory in near future. The difference in speed is amazing between the 4GB Ram and the 16 GB Ram. The Intel I7 processor is also much faster than the AMD processor that came on the older 2 laptops.

I do a lot of photo processing, I don't do Netflix Movies so can't help with that. If I want to view a U Tube Video I just go to the website for U Tube, I don't have an app for it.

Are you upgrading an older PC to this new one with Windows 10? If so, be advised Microsoft no longer offers a program to transfer your old files to the new computer. It's gonna cost ya!
